Innovative – in some cases optional – driving assistance systems support the driver more comprehensively than ever. 6 airmatic The optional air suspension system pampers the car’s occupants with exemplary ride comfort. This is taken care of by continuously variable dampers, which can automatically adapt to every driving situation. On request the driver also has the opportunity to select sporty tuning. Maximum refinement at all times, even when carrying a heavy load, thanks to pneumatic level control. The highlight: when travelling at high speed, the C-Class lowers itself to reduce wind resistance and increase driving stability. 7 8 Seduction of the mind. Elegant and intelligent. Because one thing above all deserves your attention whilst you’re driving: the traffic around you. One or two gestures with your fingers – a quick swipe or splay – is all the newly developed touchpad with multitouch sensor system integrated in Audio 20 CD and COMAND Online needs to understand what you want. It can even decipher the letters and numbers in your handwriting. The touchpad in the C-Class enables all the functions of the infotainment system to be operated via gestures alone. 17 18 19 Its origins are written all over its face. The front section of the C-Class in the EXCLUSIVE Exterior line with the star on the bonnet: unmistakably a Mercedes-Benz. The technology behind the striking front is at least as characteristic: the shutter on the AIRPANEL optionally available with the EXCLUSIVE Exterior opens and closes via an ingenious mechanism. This optimises the aerodynamics as necessary and thus cuts the fuel consumption. 20 Out and about in a special place. 21 Space is luxury. When the C-Class Estate offers it, it grows beyond itself. Its exterior is characterised by the powerful design of the AMG bodystyling – for instance through the sportily striking front and rear apron and side skirts. The diamond radiator grille reinforces the athletic impression. A further indication of its heritage is the special “AMG” badge on the front wings. The crowning glory of the muscular look comes in the form of the two chromed twin tailpipe trims. The attractive entry to the world of AMG: the new Mercedes-Benz C 450 AMG 4MATIC combines a 270 kW (367 hp) 3.0-litre V6 biturbo engine with the permanent all-wheel drive AMG performance 4MATIC and the sophisticated AMG chassis technology. With a maximum torque of 520 newton metres the new V6 engine sets benchmarks in its segment. For thrilling driving dynamics 33 percent of the engine power flows to the front axle, and 67 percent to the rear axle. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds1 is yet another strong statement. In strong form: this is how the Mercedes-AMG C 63 S presents itself. In its AMG 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine eight cylinders persistently pump their hearts out. One step on the accelerator and you understand why the passenger compartment is called a cockpit: in 4.0 seconds1 from 0 to 100 km/h – that is no longer acceleration; it declares war on the laws of physics. And somebody to change it. Every one of the engines for the C-Class is already driven by one form of renewable energy: the power of innovation. With the BlueTEC HYBRID technology in the C 300 the C-Class offers an intelligent and efficient drive configuration. At its heart is the hybrid module. it consists of a 4-cylinder diesel engine, a compact electric motor, the automatic trans­ mission 7G-TRONIC PLUS and a powerful lithium-ion highvoltage battery. This stores the energy created during the braking process and captured by the recuper­ative braking system and makes it available again when needed. This ensures powerful acceleration, less consumption and exemplary emission values. And it gets even better: with the new PLUG-IN HYBRID technology in the C 350 e an even more efficient combined engine system is available. Here an electric motor and a 4-cylinder petrol engine are connected to the drive system. With this configuration, however, there is the alternative option of charging the car’s battery at a power outlet, in addition to recuperation. The larger battery enables longer journeys to be undertaken in all-electric mode – entirely free of local emissions. The purely petrol and diesel models are also economical and pioneering. In the case of the petrol engines, various measures, such as the combination of exhaust gas turbocharging with direct injection, and an enhanced combustion process reduce both fuel consumption and emissions. And where the models with diesel engines are concerned, it has been possible to reduce the nitrogen oxide emissions by up to 90 percent to a minimum through the ultramodern exhaust gas aftertreatment concept BlueTEC. It goes without saying that all C-Class cars also meet the stringent requirements of the Euro 6 emission class. The engine range The engine technology. Part of a bigger whole. The command centre. In addition to seven gears, the 7-speed automatic transmission offers excellent ride comfort, driving enjoyment and efficiency. The seven forward gears allow a wide ratio spread with low engine speed increments between the individual gears. The result: fast-response and fuel-saving gear changes with smooth transitions. Skipping individual gears allows multiple downshifts for powerful, fast bursts of speed. And the DYNAMIC SELECT switch lets the driver preselect the gearshift characteristics. Steering-wheel gearshift paddles similar to the ones used in motorsport can be used to change gear. Six sporty stages The 6-speed manual transmission is perfectly tuned to the respective engine variant and ensures extreme ease of shifting, precise shift travel and a smooth gear change sequence. With one answer. With its newly developed suspension and optional AIRMATIC Agility package, the C-Class redefines the meaning of refinement. The air suspension with continuously variable damping system operates fully automatically and transfers the damping force to each wheel intelligently and precisely. A flick of the DYNAMIC SELECT switch is all it takes to adjust the settings to suit requirements: individuality. Parameters such as the engine, transmission (only in the case of the 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission), suspension and steering characteristics are adjusted to suit the selected drive program. Four programs are available, or you can put together your own individual one. be it for optimum fuel consumption, optimum comfort or optimum agility. As its name suggests, “Sport+” places the emphasis firmly on sport – with more progressive steering characteristics, stiffer sports-tuned suspension and modified shift points. This suspension with selective passive damping system ensures balanced ride comfort by optimising ride characteristics, damping effect and stabilisation according to the road surface conditions. ESP® Dynamic Cornering Assist. Especially when accelerating on bends, the ESP®-based system ensures more stability and handling safety. The optional LED Intelligent Light System impresses with its unmistakable design, low energy consumption and more safety. The enhanced main beam, part of the optional Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus, does not dazzle vehicles in front or oncoming traffic. With the new optional high-resolution Head-up Display you always have the most important information, such as the speed, speed limits or navigation instructions, in view, depending on the equipment. For you it feels as though the display is floating two metres in front of your eyes above the bonnet. This ensures more safety, as you no longer have to take your eyes off the road. For more comfort a sensor adjusts the brightness of the display to the respective light conditions, and the driver can set the position height of the display individually. More light The optional Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus facilitates driving with main-beam headlamps on permanently, without dazzling other road users. As a result the best possible headlamp range is always available to the driver. Also available as an optional extra, the LED High Performance headlamps enhance safety at night by distributing the light over a wide area with a light colour similar to daylight, with low energy consumption. 47 The reassuring feeling of driving a Mercedes-Benz. Safe driving ATTENTION ASSIST, which comes as standard, can improve handling safety, especially on long journeys and at night. It can monitor the steering behaviour of the driver to recognise typical signs of drowsiness and severe loss of attention, and give a visual and acoustic warning of impending microsleep. The Active Lane Keeping Assist1 can detect when the car leaves its lane unintentionally, warn the driver by making the steering wheel vibrate and actuate the brakes on one side to help manoeuvre the car back into its lane. Vehicles in the blind spot – the Active Blind Spot Assist1 makes one of the greatest sources of danger in road traffic visible. For example, when the car changes lane, it can warn the driver and help prevent an imminent collision by applying the brakes on one side of the vehicle. The car occupants, meanwhile, can be protected by up to eight airbags. Every Mercedes-Benz is fully trained in first aid. If the worst comes to the worst, the engine can be stopped automatically, the hazard warning lights and emergency interior lighting can be activated, and the central locking can be unlocked.
