Summary of Content
3 F O R C E O F N A T U R E Maserati has a history of naming its cars after the world’s most famous winds. This trend began in 1963 with the classic Mistral, soon followed by the Ghibli, the Bora and the Khamsin. Now, the Levante joins the Maserati hall of fame. The Levante wind blows across the Mediterranean and can transform from calm to gale force in an instant. The Maserati SUV that bears its name is just the same, although its mighty power always remains under perfect control. In the true Maserati grand-touring tradition, comfort and control are paramount— whatever the speed or distance. 4 5 T 6 The Levante, as proof of its power, can reach 62 mph from a standing start in an astonishing 5.2 seconds. Meanwhile, all five passengers are carried in the elegantly appointed, perfectly balanced luxury of a large and spacious SUV. Thanks to the Maserati Q4 intelligent allwheel-drive system, the Levante maintains its refined composure even when the going gets rough. The 2018 Levante is available in base, GranLusso or GranSport trim. GranLusso places an emphasis on style, with the vehicle’s luxury appointments. GranSport, meanwhile, accentuates engaging vehicle dynamics. Both the GranLusso and GranSport trims offer new advanced driver-assistance features, including an innovative power steering system. From a design perspective, the Levante is pure Maserati—combining a dramatic and graceful style with a dynamic purpose. The coupe-like lines say it all: Their mesmerizing looks reflect the uncompromising sporting character of every car that bears the Trident. A new journey has begun in the Maserati of SUVs. 7 THE TRU E S P I RIT OF M A S E R AT I The Levante SUV embodies the enduring, intrepid and progressive spirit of Maserati as part of a story that dates back more than 100 years. Maserati officially opened for business in 1914 at No. 1 Via de’ Pepoli in Bologna, but the wheels were in motion long before. In 1900, Rodolfo Maserati’s eldest son, Carlo, built a single-cylinder engine and fitted it to a bicycle. At just 17 years of age, Carlo raced his motorized bicycle to victory in a punishing long-distance rally in northern Italy. 8 following year, making Maserati the only European manufacturer to win the Indy 500 twice. In 1957, the legendary Juan Manuel Fangio took his fifth F1 World Championship at the Nürburgring (also known as the Green Hell) in a Maserati 250F. For Fangio, who was 46 years old, it was his final and greatest victory. In the late 1940s, Maserati took a luxurious turn by creating the A6 1500 GT production grand tourer. Built in our current home in Modena, the 1500 GT featured sensuous Pininfarina coachwork. The convertible A6G Frua Spyder soon followed. A short while later, the intrepid youngster designed another engine and fitted it to a wooden car chassis. This was, arguably, the world’s first Maserati vehicle. Such power and performance had never been so beautifully packaged—opening up new worlds of long-distance possibilities in the process. Maserati’s drive to innovate and its passion for speed made the transition into elite motorsport inevitable. It was a move that reaped countless rewards on the world stage. Here are just a few of the brand’s many historic successes: In 1926, Alfieri Maserati drove the Maserati Tipo 26 to victory in its first-ever race— the Targa Florio. In 1939, Wilbur Shaw won the Indianapolis 500 at the wheel of the Maserati “Boyle Special” 8 CTF at an average speed of more than 115 mph. Shaw repeated this feat the Since then, all Maserati production models have followed this unique formula, offering race-bred performance, captivating Italian design, and all the luxuries and comfort you would expect from a prestigious grand-touring automobile. The Maserati Levante’s striking SUV design continues this longstanding tradition while adding yet another compelling dimension to the experience. 9 M A S E R A T I D E S I G N L A N G U A G E When it comes to design language, the Levante speaks fluent Maserati; wherever you look, the messages are clear and compelling. Visual and functional highlights include an aggressively sculpted front grille with chrome bars that impart an especially imposing look, given the Levante’s elevated SUV proportions. This stance is complemented by muscular, arching front fenders bearing Maserati’s iconic triple air vents, and the ever-present Saetta logo in the steeply tapered, coupe-like rear section. Such details, along with frameless door windows, a subtle spoiler and quad tailpipes, make an emphatic statement from every angle about the Levante’s unique strength. 10 11 E N T E R T H E U P P E R A T M O S P H E R E The interior of the Levante expresses authentic Maserati character, with elegant Italian style, meticulously crafted finishes, and a race-bred energy that inspires long-distance luxurious travel. The Levante also offers a liberating feeling of space. This, along with the commanding SUV driving position, balances the coupe-like exterior. controller for the infotainment system, an abundance of useful storage, and the flexibility of 60/40-folding rear seats with a 20.5-cubic-foot cargo compartment highlight the Levante’s purposeful design. The trunk is accessible via an available kick sensor, which allows you to open the tailgate by simply moving your foot beneath the rear bumper. Other practical touches include dual-zone or optional four-zone climate control and an air-quality monitor. Interior highlights include hand-stitched leather for the seats, dashboard and side panels highlighted by genuine wood or Piano Black trim for other surfaces. An elegant aluminum rotary 12 13 LEVANTE GRANLUSSO L U X U R Y I S I T S FAV O R I T E S P O R T For drivers who prefer extra touches of luxury, the GranLusso trim offers a host of refinements. A bold metallic finish adorns the front bumper’s protection plates and the roof rails. At the sides, the GranLusso badge is seamlessly integrated into the front fenders. The side skirts and other details are elegantly color-matched with the rest of the exterior. The brake calipers are finished in a striking black. Finally, the GranLusso stands on imposing 19-inch Zefiro light-alloy wheels. 14 15 AC C E N T O N L U X U RY The Levante GranLusso offers sumptuous front seats with 12-way power adjustment and a memory function. You can choose either full premium Italian leather or Ermenegildo Zegna Silk Edition upholstery, both complemented by Radica wood trim. The poweradjustable steering wheel is finished in fine wood. The GranLusso trim also includes a Harman Kardon Premium Sound system, an advanced navigation system, and front and rear parking sensors. Power foot pedals and illuminated doorsills are available. 16 17 LEVANTE GRANSPORT H E I G H T S O F DY N A M I C E L E GA N C E The Levante GranSport offers dramatic impact, featuring Piano Black or chrome trim for the front grille, the protection plates beneath the front bumper, and the roof rails. Like the GranLusso, the GranSport features side skirts painted in body color and other exterior details. The GranSport badge also appears on each front fender. There are dashes of sporting color, too. The GranSport’s mighty 20-inch Nereo light-alloy wheels are fitted with red painted calipers. Meanwhile, evocative blue detailing adorns the front grille’s Trident badge, the wheel centers, and inserts in the C-pillarmounted Saetta logo. Both trims offer the convenience of soft-close doors. With this, a mechanism quietly and automatically closes the doors when they are left slightly ajar. 18 19 MORE SPORTING STYLE The GranSport trim offers front sport seats with 12-way power adjustment and memory. In addition, a power-adjustable sport steering wheel with multi-function buttons, brushed-chrome gearshift paddles, and power foot pedals with aluminum sport finish impart a dynamic spirit to the interior design. The motorsport feel can also be heightened with a range of carbon-fiber trim choices. For everyday practicality, the GranSport offers front and rear parking sensors and an advanced navigation system. 20 21 I TA LY I S R I C H I N W O N D E R S 22 23 H E R E 24 A R E T W O 25 T E C H N O L O G Y EPIC POWER, SMOOTH REFINEMENT The engine powering the Levante is designed by Maserati and built at Ferrari’s Maranello plant exclusively for Maserati. The 3.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V6 engines in the Levante and Levante S offer everything you would expect of a Maserati, from snarling responsiveness to effortless long-distance refinement. Both powertrains are also remarkably efficient. To achieve this characteristic balance, Maserati Powertrain engineers and Ferrari’s Powertrain development team adopted a twin-turbocharger design—one turbo for each cylinder bank— plus the latest valve-control and high-pressure direct-injection technology. Twin turbocharging isn’t new; Maserati pioneered this system in 1981 with its advanced Biturbo model, an innovation since adopted by the rest of the automotive industry. 345 hp V6 Twin Turbo The Levante’s V6 engine delivers 345 hp at 5,750 rpm and peak torque of 369 lb-ft between 4,500 and 5,000 rpm. The zero-to-62 mph sprint is dispatched in just 6.0 seconds, and the top speed is 156 mph. 424 hp V6 Twin Turbo The Levante S is equipped with the most powerful version of the Maserati V6 engine. Maximum output of 424 hp is delivered at 5,750 rpm. Peak torque of 428 lb-ft is on tap between 4,500 rpm and 5,000 rpm, with 90 percent of that torque accessible at just 1,600 rpm. The sprint from zero to 62 mph is accomplished in 5.2 seconds, and top speed is 164 mph. Nothing can match the engine note of a Maserati. The Levante features a lightweight exhaust system with bypass valves to ensure maximum excitement. With Sport mode active—which also sharpens the vehicle’s handling parameters—the valves open to provide the shortest, highest-energy route for the exhaust gases. This transition results in optimized engine performance and an unmistakably resonant, spine-tingling sound. 26 27 T R A N S M I S S I O N R E L A X A T I O N A N D C O M P L E T E C O N T R O L The advanced ZF automatic gearbox provides remarkable flexibility and complete, direct and efficient control of the Levante’s robust power. ZF’s advanced eight-speed automatic transmission delivers optimum comfort, fast gear changes, exceptional fuel consumption, and incredible refinement. In both Automatic and Manual mode, seven dedicated shift settings can be selected via the Normal, Sport and Off-Road switches next to the gear lever. You can also turn on ICE (Increased Control & Efficiency) mode for improved traction in slippery conditions and reduced fuel consumption. Thanks to auto-adaptive software, the transmission modifies its shift pattern according to your personal driving style, for an even more rewarding driving experience. AUTO NORMAL MODE This default mode provides smooth gearshifts at low revs to maximize ride comfort and help minimize fuel consumption. When a sportier style of driving is recognized, upshifts automatically take place at higher engine speeds. MANUAL NORMAL MODE This mode allows drivers to change gears using available paddles behind the steering wheel or via the center-mounted lever. Upshifts occur automatically on approach to redline, and downshifts occur based on customized driving style. AUTO SPORT MODE In this mode, gear changes are faster and occur at higher revs, creating a sportier driving experience. Additionally, the exhaust valves open to allow Maserati’s iconic engine sound to be heard at its rousing best. Finally, the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) is less intrusive, affording more control to the driver. Auto Sport mode also initiates overboost to access peak torque at far lower engine speed. 28 MANUAL SPORT MODE With Manual Sport, the driver is in full command of the transmission. A host of other factors also come into play to make the driving experience even more exhilarating: The overboost function activates for maximum performance; the ESP is less intrusive; the exhaust valves open up for a more aggressive tone; and gear changes are quicker and sharper. Additionally, throttle mapping is more aggressive, and the engine can be pushed to the redline without the system intervening. The only automatic feature is downshifting if the revs drop too low. MANUAL OFF-ROAD MODE When the driver selects a chosen speed in this mode, the Levante continues at that pace—even when climbing. When the driver needs to concentrate on a challenging ascent, the Levante will effectively drive itself, allowing the driver to focus on steering. AUTOMATIC OFF-ROAD MODE This mode retains all the benefits of the Off-Road setting but adds the convenience of automatic shifting for driving convenience. ICE (INCREASED CONTROL & EFFICIENCY) MODE Not just for use in icy or low-grip conditions, this mode helps ensure a quieter, smoother ride paired with lower fuel consumption. In ICE mode, automatic gear changes occur imperceptibly at the optimal point to maximize fuel efficiency and cabin refinement. Additionally, engine boost is restrained, the exhaust valves remain closed until 5,000 rpm, and acceleration mapping is smoothed to provide maximum comfort. 29 30 31 I N T E L L I G E N T S Y S T E M S AN SUV WITH THE SOUL OF A GT The Levante is a luxurious SUV with a commanding presence that inspires confidence on rough terrain and drives like a sporting grand tourer on the open road. ACTIVE AIR SUSPENSION Maserati’s advanced active air suspension raises or lowers the Levante according to need or preference. With five settings to choose from, the driver can select a ride height to match any road or terrain. The Levante can quickly transition from high clearance for off-roading to a lowered setting for smooth and efficient highway cruising. Q4 INTELLIGENT ALL-WHEEL-DRIVE SYSTEM The Q4 system delivers the dynamic driving experience that is the hallmark of Maserati’s sporting rear-wheel drive, even when grip is poor. In normal conditions, Q4 sends all available torque to the rear wheels to maximize the Levante’s handling dynamics and provide optimal fuel consumption. If traction is lost during fast cornering, sudden acceleration, or limited rearaxle grip, Q4 can alter the torque split from 100 percent rear-wheel drive to 50:50 between the front and rear wheels. In just 150 milliseconds—quicker than the blink of an eye—the Q4 system can intelligently apply power to maximize grip. SPORT SKYHOOK SUSPENSION SYSTEM The Maserati Levante features Maserati’s Skyhook suspension with continuous damping variation. Skyhook uses sensors to monitor the movement of each wheel and of the car’s body to determine present road conditions and driving behavior. The system then 32 instantly adjusts individual damper settings accordingly. Ride comfort is prioritized as standard, but a simple press of the suspension button on the central console immediately firms up the shock absorbers for more dynamic handling. ELECTRIC POWER STEERING (EPS) This system provides the excellent road feel and comfort expected from a Maserati. Steering weight is adapted according to speed. When maneuvering in a tight spot, steering is lighter and easier to turn, but at high speeds, weight is added for improved road feel. This system is also more efficient—requiring energy only when the wheel is turned. As an additional benefit, the electronic steering rack integrates with the Levante’s advanced driver-assistance systems, including Highway Assist, Lane Keeping Assist and Active Blind Spot Assist. ELECTRIC AIR SHUTTER With a drag coefficient of just 0.31, the Maserati Levante cuts through the air. The Levante’s front grille continuously modulates airflow to the engine compartment, delivering optimal engine temperature, reduced aerodynamic drag, improved performance and greater efficiency. 33 E N T E R T A I N M E N T A N D C O N N E C T I V I T Y I N N O VA T I O N F O R A C O N N E C T E D W O R L D The Levante’s cutting-edge infotainment package puts the focus on intuitive engagement, real-world assistance and customizable enjoyment. The interior of the Levante is built around a driver interface that is intuitive, uncluttered and easy to use. The instrument cluster features large analog gauges for the tachometer and speedometer, alongside a 7-inch TFT display. Major dynamic functions are incorporated into the buttons near the gearshift, while other on-board settings can be adjusted using the Maserati Touch Control Plus (MTC+) infotainment system, or via the steering-wheel controls. MASERATI TOUCH CONTROL The 8.4-inch Maserati Touch Control Plus (MTC+) unit is featured prominently at the center of the Levante dashboard. With a minimalist layout and a highly responsive interface, it is designed to help the driver maintain focus on the road ahead. MTC+ can be operated in three ways: with the touchscreen interface, the rotary control in the central console, or voice commands. The system incorporates the car’s radio, Bluetooth® and satellite navigation system, along with connections to external sources such as mobile phones, tablets and laptops. high-resolution monitor. In addition, MTC+ controls the front-seat heating, ventilation, steering-wheel heating and the rear-window blind (when equipped). When the Levante is reversing, the backup camera and grid lines are shown on the vivid center display. The state-of-the-art MTC+ system supports the convenience of Apple CarPlay ® and Android Auto™ mirroring functions. iPhone ® users also benefit from Apple’s Siri ® personal assistant, allowing them to carry out tasks like placing phone calls, accessing music or messages, reading emails or viewing websites—all via voice commands. WORLD-CLASS AUDIO ENTERTAINMENT The Levante is offered with a choice of three audio systems. A powerful 280-watt, eight-speaker package is fitted as standard and sets the bar at an impressively high level. True audio aficionados can upgrade to one of two outstanding options: the 14-speaker Harman Kardon Premium Sound system or the 17-speaker Bowers & Wilkins Surround Sound system. Using the aux-in port, USB sockets or the SD card reader, passengers can play music or, when the car is stationary, view images on the Apple CarPlay ®: Requires compatible iPhone ®. These innovative safety features offer greater peace of mind, whether you’re on an exclusive grand tour or dashing through the city. TRAFFIC SIGN RECOGNITION Even the best drivers fail to recognize traffic signs on occasion, and for this reason, Traffic Sign Recognition is a particularly useful feature. 1 While monitoring three types of indicators—speed limits, temporary speed limits due to conditions like heavy rain, and no-passing zones—the system displays updated signs digitally in the gauge cluster. The Traffic Sign Recognition feature is powered by a digital camera mounted behind the rear-view mirror and navigation data. HIGHWAY ASSIST SYSTEM (HAS) Combining the virtues of Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go and Lane Keeping Assist, Highway Assist System (HAS) makes life easier while driving on highways. 2 Using information picked up from a digital camera behind the rearview mirror, plus a radar system in the front grille, HAS automatically keeps the vehicle centered in its lane at a pre-selected speed and at a chosen distance from the vehicle ahead. HAS will even decelerate the Levante as traffic conditions dictate. To help ensure safety, HAS requires the driver to keep his or her hands on the steering wheel at all times. LANE DEPARTURE WARNING SYSTEM Using a camera in the rear-view mirror to monitor road markings ahead, Lane Departure Warning helps drivers keep the vehicle in a chosen lane on highways and main roads. 2 This system reduces lane drift and the possibility of lateral collisions by warning when the vehicle crosses lane markings without signaling. Activation of the turn indicator overrides the system. LANE KEEPING ASSIST (LKA) Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) provides valuable support if the driver is about to unintentionally leave a lane. 2 A digital camera behind the rear-view mirror continuously monitors road markings to communicate vehicle status in the driver instrument panel. White lines on either side of the vehicle image indicate drivers are safely within the lane. One yellow line indicates that the Levante is moving off-center, right or left. One flashing yellow line warns of lane departure, which prompts LKA to step in with corrective steering. For LKA to activate, the Visual & Haptic box must be selected in the touchscreen display. ACTIVE BLIND SPOT ASSIST Active Blind Spot Assist triggers a warning icon in the exterior door mirrors when a vehicle enters the driver’s blind spot. 3 Three levels of support can be selected if the driver continues with his or her lane change: The system will maintain a visual alert in the door mirrors; the alert is supported by an acoustic warning; or the system intervenes with steering assistance. The intensity of this assistance is also adaptable according to preference. SURROUND-VIEW CAMERA This provides a clear 360-degree view around the car to assist with parking and highlight otherwise hidden obstructions.4 Two cameras beneath the door mirrors, plus front and rear cameras, capture images. These images are then shown on the center display. ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL WITH STOP & GO FUNCTION Adaptive Cruise Control constantly monitors the vehicle ahead, maintaining a 36 pre-set distance. 5 With the Stop & Go function, the vehicle will also adjust to the speed of the vehicle in front until it comes to a complete stop, provided the stop takes less than two seconds. FORWARD COLLISION WARNING PLUS Forward Collision Warning Plus, in combination with Adaptive Cruise Control, monitors vehicles ahead and warns if the approach could result in a rear-end collision. 6 This is linked to the Advanced Brake Assist system, which provides additional braking during an emergency stop. If the warning does not prompt any action from the driver, the Autonomous Emergency Braking system automatically applies the brakes to reduce the car’s speed. REAR CROSS PATH FUNCTION Rear Cross Path Function emits a warning when an unseen vehicle is approaching, from the right or left, while the driver is reversing out of a parking space. 7 FRONT AND REAR PARKING SENSORS AND REAR-VIEW CAMERA To assist with maneuvering in tight spaces, the Levante comes equipped with parking sensors in the front and rear bumpers.8 Beeping noises increase in frequency as the obstacle approaches. Additionally, the instrument panel TFT display shows surrounding symbols in green, yellow or red, depending on the remaining distance. A rear-view camera, fitted close to the trunk lock, also shows a view of what is behind the car on the infotainment display. Dynamic grid lines illustrate the maximum width of the vehicle and its projected path, based on the steering angle of the front wheels. HILL HOLDER Using on-board sensors to detect the vehicle’s angle when parked facing uphill, Hill Holder briefly maintains braking pressure to allow the driver sufficient time to release the brake pedal and accelerate before the car rolls backwards. HILL DESCENT CONTROL (HDC) HDC allows for a smooth and controlled hill descent on snow or rough terrain without use of the brake pedal. If the vehicle accelerates with no input from the driver, the system will automatically apply the brakes to slow to the desired speed (which is set using the Cruise Control buttons). Applying pressure to the accelerator or brake pedal instantly overrides the system. 1. Traffic Sign Recognition System is not a substitute for safe and attentive driving. Factors including weather and condition of the traffic sign can impact recognition and display of the sign. Always check traffic signs visually while driving. 2. This system is a driver’s convenience system, not a substitute for active driver involvement. The driver must remain aware of traffic conditions and maintain control of the vehicle. 3. Always check visually for vehicles prior to changing lanes. 4. Always check entire surroundings visually before moving forward or backing up. 5. This system is a driver’s convenience system, not a substitute for active driver involvement. The driver must remain aware of traffic conditions and be prepared to use the brakes to avoid collisions. 6. This system is an alert system for the front of the vehicle. It is not a substitute for active driver involvement. The driver must remain aware of traffic conditions and be prepared to use brakes to avoid collisions. 7. Always check entire surroundings visually before backing up. 8. Always check entire surroundings visually before moving forward or backing up. 37 S A F E T Y COMPREHENSIVE SAFETY Every Maserati is designed and built to provide world-class levels of safety and peace of mind. Here are the main safety features of the Levante. THE MASERATI STABILITY PROGRAM (MSP) Developed under extreme testing conditions, the Maserati Stability Program (MSP) employs an array of sensors to constantly monitor driving conditions, while utilizing a host of safety and performance systems to maintain handling and grip. If, for instance, a skid is detected, MSP selectively reduces engine torque and can activate the brakes with finely varied inputs to restore stability within milliseconds. The MSP system works in harmony with features like Anti-Slip Regulation (ASR), which reduces wheel spin and improves traction, and engine brake torque control (MSR), which helps prevent the wheels from locking during sudden downshifts. Additionally, the Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) reduces wheel lockup and distributes brake force evenly between the front and rear axles. Further support is provided by the Brake Assistance System (BAS), which responds to emergency stops by boosting pressure in the hydraulic circuit to maximize stopping power. The Hill Holder function keeps the car from rolling backwards as the driver sets off on an uphill slope. INTELLIGENT BI-XENON AND LED LIGHTS The Levante is equipped with bi-xenon headlights and standard LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL) for the indicators and fog lights. DRLs assure maximum visibility day and night, while adding to the Levante’s sporty-yet-elegant look. When the headlights are off, the DRLs operate at full brightness. If the headlights are switched on, or if the turn signal is activated, the DRLs dim automatically. The LED taillights are also highly innovative, providing excellent visibility while emphasizing the style and safety of the Levante. 38 ADAPTIVE FRONT LIGHTING SYSTEM (AFS) Adaptive Front Lighting automatically adjusts the headlight beams to provide an outstanding view of the road ahead, without dazzling oncoming drivers. The system features different beam modes for driving on highways, back roads, city roads and in adverse weather. Highway Mode, for instance, sets the beam to a moderate position between high and low, which is ideal for high speeds. Town Mode shortens and widens the headlight beam and deactivates beam rotation according to steering angle. This design feature assures that pedestrians and oncoming drivers are not disturbed. Adverse Weather Mode is activated when the wipers are set to continuous, providing a higher, wider beam on the pavement side and a wider, lower beam on the center of the road. This reduces distracting reflections and helps limit light glare for oncoming traffic. TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM (TPMS) Standard on all Levante models, Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) continuously monitors tire pressure via a valve-integrated sensor. In the case of a puncture or a sudden change in tire pressure, TPMS notifies the driver with visual and acoustic warnings. Tire pressure can be viewed on the dashboard display at all times.
