As you would expect of a luxury sports saloon, there’s soothing comfort and effortlessly intuitive technology, but also race-bred performance. There’s graceful, four-door coupé design, but also sporting character. And there’s the comfort of a smooth ride, but also razor-sharp, sports car-like handling. Such dynamic contrasts, so typical of Maserati, are a source of endless inspiration – whether you’re on the way to a conference or breaking loose for the drive of a lifetime. The latest models now offer even more excitement, with a host of exterior design refinements, new safety technology and important developments when it comes to Advanced Driving Assistance Systems. The Ghibli can be upgraded with GranLusso and GranSport trims, each comprehensively equipped according to your precise personal wishes. With the GranLusso, the emphasis is on luxury and comfort. With the GranSport, it’s more about engaging driving dynamics. Both offer you a new range of alloy wheel, exterior paint colour and interior trim options. Whatever your choice, whatever your ambition, the Maserati Ghibli always has a uniquely inspirational answer. 8 A A HISTORY OF CHARACTER An ENDURING LEGACY The first Maserati Ghibli was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro and unveiled at the Turin Motor Show of 1966. Giugiaro, then in his 20s, was considered a design prodigy. And rightly so. His creation, with its 2+2, fastback format, pop-up headlights and audacious shark-nosed profile was an instant hit and became an automotive design icon. Maserati had planned to make 100 models but, following the car’s rapturous reception, that number was boosted to 400. In the end, the Ghibli remained in production until the end of 1972, with 1,295 examples built in spyder and coupé format. The car followed a tradition pioneered by Maserati with the glorious A6 1500 of 1947. It was a grand tourer. That meant it delivered on the promise of glorious style, high-powered luxury and peerless comfort over almost any distance the owner cared to consider. It was also, naturally, a car imbued with our motor racing DNA – a remarkably powerful force. Indeed, well before 1966, we had proved our credentials with a host of famous wins. Here are just a few examples. In 1926, Alfieri Maserati drove the Maserati Tipo 26 to victory in its first ever race – the treacherous Targa Florio in the mountains of Sicily. In 1939, Wilbur Shaw won the Indianapolis 500 at the wheel of the Maserati ‘Boyle Special’ 8 CTF at an average speed of over 115 mph. He then repeated this incredible feat the next year, making Maserati the only European manufacturer to win the Indy 500 two years in a row. And in 1957, the legendary Juan Manuel Fangio took his fifth F1 World Championship at the Nürburgring – also known as the Green Hell – in a Maserati 250F. At 46 years old, it was his last and his greatest victory. Our latest Ghibli embodies the spirit that shaped both the first incarnation of 1966 and our hunger to innovate, compete and win. That means exclusive luxury, elegant yet bold design and progressive technology. And, of course, empowering performance. 12 E EXTERIORS Singular STYLE The design of the Ghibli is a study in dynamically sculpted curves and gracefully flowing lines – and the more you look, the more you see, the more you want to get in and drive. At the front, the signature grille signals both dynamic intent and poised composure. Inspired by the legendary A6 GCS Berlinetta of the 1950s, it features chromed bars and is perfectly integrated into the bumper, also stylishly updated. Above this, there’s the arching, predatory bonnet with two character lines plunging down into a V-shape. 16 The grille’s traditional oval form narrows at the squared-off top section, accentuating the impression of strong forward focus. Here, it aligns with the sculpted headlights, incorporating LED Daytime Running Lights that underscore the charismatic Maserati presence. The entire ensemble leads the gaze to the iconic, low-mounted Trident – the Maserati symbol of power, endurance and elegance. In profile, the coupé-like character and the long wheelbase are clear to see. This, once again, reveals how the four-door saloon offers a unique combination of sportiness, practicality and comfort. The Ghibli, in fact, has the longest wheelbase in its category. With its length of 4.97 metres, it promises exceptional cabin space. A host of definitive details create the coupé look. They include frameless doors, muscular, rising rear haunches and the C-pillar design, which incorporates the timeless Saetta logo. The triple air vents in the wings are another essential Maserati touch. They also mark the starting point for upper swage lines that sweep all the way through to the rear lights. At the rear, you’ll find quad chrome exhaust tailpipes inscribed with ‘Maserati’ and ‘Ghibli’ and an elegant bumper design. It beautifully rounds off a deeply captivating overall picture. 18 BluNobile TRI-COAT PAINT A striking new shade has been added to refresh the exterior colour palette. Deep, dark blue with sparkling glass flakes that glisten when exposed to sunlight and enhance the unique design of the Ghibli. Shimmering like the tips of the waves in the rolling ocean, this is not so much a colour as an enriching visual experience that transforms each time the car flashes past. Ever since the times of the ancient Egyptians, blue has been blessed with noble connotations, standing for royalty and favoured by rulers. This imperious shade of blue reflects these aristocratic traditions and perfectly complements the effortlessly flowing lines of the Ghibli. 20 21 I INTERIORS A distinctive INVITATION The interior of the Ghibli is, in essence, a clearly expressed invitation to travel – in luxurious comfort and with effortless access to high power at your disposal. In true Maserati grand touring tradition, the cabin is characterised by elegant Italian style, hand-crafted finishes and perfectly organised, generously proportioned design. The sumptuous leather-finished curves, clean, technical purity of the dashboard and detailing in metallic-effect trim simultaneously relax and heighten the senses. Two side panels converge towards an elegantly simple central structure, which houses the traditional Maserati clock with its blue face and aluminium detailing. Beneath that, there’s the 8.4” touchscreen infotainment system and rotary control, along with a handy phone storage box. The large speedometer and rev counter benefit from purist white backlighting and are separated by a 7” TFT display that presents the car’s dynamic data. Even with its head-turning coupélike proportions, the Ghibli offers class-leading front legroom, as well as comfortable head and leg space for rear passengers. All seats are clad in meticulously selected and processed leather. In the finest tradition of Italian craftsmanship, they are also stitched by hand, while the front headrests are embossed with the Trident logo. These options have recently been extended with the possibility of immaculately soft Pieno Fiore natural leather, as well as new interior trims. Individual adaptability is a Maserati hallmark. Which is why, for instance, the Ghibli offers six-way electric adjustment and the leather multi-function steering wheel features a wealth of adjustment possibilities. In the rear, 60/40-folding leather rear seats can comfortably accommodate three people. These provide fully optimised lateral support and comfort even on the longest journeys. And if child seats are needed, ISOFIX fittings mean they can be anchored securely. 24 PienoFiore NATURAL LEATHER. BEYOND COMPARE All leather is not created equal. Optional full-grain Pieno Fiore natural leather offers an extraordinary softness to the touch and is considered unrivalled in terms of quality and durability. Available in all Maserati Ghibli versions, this exclusive leather is highly desirable for its subtle texture, natural aroma and its ability to take on a beautiful patina over time. Sourced exclusively for Maserati, the leather selected for the seats of the Ghibli has been carefully selected from twelve different varieties; all compelling in their own right. 26 The Pieno Fiore natural leather comes from the hide of bulls possessing particularly strong fibres that deliver a silken finish and an astoundingly natural look. These bulls are mostly reared in the mountains of Northern Europe at an altitude where there are few insects and no fences with spikes to blemish the perfect hides. The result is leather of the very highest quality with no defects whatsoever. The natural appearance is further emphasised by the irregularity of the grain and wrinkles. Available in black, red or tan − with a distinctive stitching pattern on the seats and door panels − Pieno Fiore is coloured by a special process inside iroko hardwood barrels to bring out the most natural nuances in the finished product. The raw material is crafted for six long weeks before the leather is ready to be delivered to our production plant. It is this painstaking attention to detail that sets our leather − and ultimately our cars − apart. 29 New INTERIOR TRIMS The purposeful ambience of the cabin is another aspect that creates a strong point of difference for Maserati. Two lavish new interior trims add to the appeal of this sanctuary for the driver, and further increase the options for personalisation. 31 HighG loss CARBON FIBRE TWILL Developed to emphasise the sporty nature of Maserati, this new trim has a glossy top coat that presents a textured 3D look and adds further exclusivity to the cabin. Every car is completely unique as the carbon pattern is genuine, ensuring that it will be slightly different every single time. The other beauty of carbon is its extraordinary natural strength, which prevents the trim from marking and protects the integrity of the Ghibli interior. 32 HighG loss ROVERE VENEER As with all other new Maserati trims, this complex veneer took around a year to develop from original concept to finished product. It is a combination of three different woods layered and then crafted by artisans in Italy. The tree bearing the Rovere wood is the symbol of one of the most powerful Italian families, and it is the fine stripes and glossy top coat that give this trim its highly distinctive appearance. 34 G GRAN DUO GhibliGran L usso EFFORTLESS LUXURY Luxury and exceptional comfort are to be expected in all Ghibli versions. The Ghibli GranLusso, however, offers a special package of exclusive exterior styling features and functions that further accentuate these timeless Maserati values. The GranLusso trim extends the offering of the Ghibli by adding chromed bumper inserts, the GranLusso badge at the base of the front wings and elegantly integrated body-colour side skirts. It also features large 19” Poseidone alloy wheels, complete with striking black brake callipers. The Soft Close Door system automatically draws each of the four doors quietly to a close when slightly ajar. Full-LED Adaptive Matrix headlights are yet another welcome addition. It’s an alluring package that leaves no doubt as to the exclusive, long-distance comforts for all to enjoy inside this vehicle. 44 Attention TO EVERY DETAIL The Ghibli GranLusso offers Comfort seats with extensive 12-way power adjustment and a memory function for instant access to pre-set configurations. Additionally, there is the choice of either Ermenegildo Zegna silk or full premium leather, complemented by Radica open-pore wood trim. Alternatively, the seats can be optionally upgraded with exceptional Pieno Fiore natural leather. Also on the list of exclusive options: the Harman Kardon Premium Sound system, power rear sunblind, front seat heating and an electrically lockable, PIN number-protected passenger glove box. 46 Interior Design BY ERMENEGILDO ZEGNA. ANOTHER MASERATI EXCLUSIVE The Ghibli can be tailored with a truly exclusive interior, styled and crafted by Ermenegildo Zegna, one of Italy’s most celebrated fashion designer brands. The finest leathers are combined with Zegna’s mulberry silk inserts on the seats, door panels, headlining and light fixture. The silk is embellished with a hand-stitched micro-chevron pattern, while the seating features a central silk insert with a macro-chevron weave. All this is available in three combinations of leather and silk, with contrast stitching. The hardwearing Zegna fabric not only bears the traditional pattern of a tailored suit, but also retains the softness, lightness and texture that is inherent in all the materials used by the illustrious fashion house. Just like Zegna’s impeccable clothing, the car carries a personalised Ermenegildo Zegna label stitched onto the driver’s sun visor to distinguish a work of masterful quality and exclusivity – and act as a reminder that, within the automotive industry, bespoke silk interiors are unique to Maserati. With the Ghibli, this focus is at its sharpest with the GranSport – a car that still, nonetheless, offers comfort and practical touches for all on board. In terms of exterior styling, the dynamic edge is seen in features that underscore the sculpted power of the Ghibli. At the front, there’s a commanding Sport-specific bumper. Like the GranLusso, the GranSport trim option also offers the hi-tech style and safety of full-LED Adaptive Matrix headlights and the convenience of Soft Close Doors. The enhanced headlight technology continuously adjusts the high and low beams, ensuring a sublimely comfortable and safe driving experience, whatever the speed or driving conditions. The low beam automatically adapts to all road and weather conditions, while the Matrix High Beam system detects and prevents glare from oncoming and rear traffic, safely restoring the high beam when the road is clear. At the sides, the GranSport badge is incorporated into the front wings, while the aerodynamically optimised skirts match the body colour. There’s a bold flash of colour here, too. This is thanks to red brake callipers fitted to the imposing 20” Urano machine-polished alloy wheels. Additionally, there is the option of an Exterior Carbon Package. This includes door handles, door mirrors, B and C-pillar covers, front splitter and the rear spoiler all finished in carbon. The overall look carries an even more emphatic message about the Ghibli’s racing heritage. 52 Take THE RACING LINE The GranSport interior is tailored to customers who prefer an even more dynamic atmosphere amid the customary Maserati luxuries and conveniences. Sport seats feature 12-way power adjustment and a memory function, there’s a satisfyingly grippy Sport steering wheel, gearshift paddles enhance the race-bred feel and purist Inox Sport foot pedals emphasise the sense of direct dynamic involvement. The GranSport also includes the convenience and flexibility of the Skyhook suspension system. Additionally, there is the option of an Interior Carbon Package. This adds lightweight, satisfyingly tactile carbon finishing to the Sport steering wheel, gearshift paddles, doorsills and interior trim. 54 E ENGINES Two CHOICES, ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES A core offering of all Maserati vehicles is the ability to cover long distances at dynamic yet refined high speed. With the Ghibli, the power that delivers this comes from a choice of two V6 petrol engines and a V6 diesel. PETROL POWER The Ghibli offers the inspirational, high-capacity power expected of a Maserati supercar. It’s also a luxury sports saloon, so it’s highly efficient and low on CO2 emissions. To achieve this fine balance, the developers at Maserati Powertrain adopted a two turbocharger design – one for each cylinder bank. Twin turbocharging isn’t new, of course. It was pioneered by Maserati with the Biturbo of 1981, an innovation the rest of the automotive industry has only recently caught on to. Nothing can match the Maserati engine note, however. And with the Ghibli, a lightweight exhaust system with bypass valves ensures that it’s delivered to maximum effect. With Sport mode active – which also sharpens the vehicle’s handling parameters – the valves open, providing the shortest, highest-energy route for the exhaust gases. The result is optimised performance and that unmistakably resonant, spine-tingling sound. Both petrol engines are hand-assembled by Ferrari in Maranello. 350 HP V6 TWIN TURBO The V6 engine in the Ghibli delivers 350 HP. In overboost mode, peak torque is available between 1,750 and 4,500 rpm. The 350 HP Ghibli accelerates from a standing start to 62 mph in just 5.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 165 mph. 430 HP V6 TWIN TURBO* The Ghibli S features the most powerful version of the V6. Maximum output is of 430 HP and is delivered at 5,750 rpm. With overboost mode, peak torque of 580 Nm is on tap between 2,250 rpm and 4,000 rpm. That means remarkable driving flexibility and performance. *Available from Q2 2019. Please speak to your Maserati Dealer for more information 59 An ALL-MASERATI DIESEL The Ghibli diesel was the first diesel-powered car in the history of Maserati - and it’s everything a Maserati engine should be. The turbocharged V6 in the Maserati Ghibli diesel offers a uniquely rewarding combination of massive power, long-distance refinement and impressive efficiency. Developing class-leading output of 275 HP and a mighty 600 Nm of torque, the engine takes the Ghibli from zero to 62 mph in a fast and smooth 6.3 seconds before going on to a top speed of 155 mph. A state-of-the-art Common Rail fuel injection system and the “air gap technology” of the exhaust manifolds ensure excellent refinement, while variable geometry turbocharging significantly cuts turbo lag. The turbo system also benefits from a Rotary Electronic Actuator. This reduces friction for even better responsiveness and lower emissions. More efficiencies are gained with the Auto Start-Stop function, also featured with the petrol engines. With the diesel, this leads to overall fuel and CO2 emission reductions of up to 6 per cent. The function automatically deactivates in Sport mode and when the driver turns off stability control. It can also be deactivated from the cluster display controls using the steering-wheel buttons, or by pressing the new, dedicated button on the Drive Mode controls. When it comes to the engine note, this engine is evidently all Maserati. Thanks to the Maserati Active Sound system, two actuators underscore the engine’s most rousing tones and modulate them according to driving style. And when the driver presses the Sport button, the vocal performance becomes even more dynamically forceful. 61 C COMFORT AND CONVENIENCE At ease IN COMMAND The Ghibli attends to your every need when it comes to comfort and convenience. That’s because it’s not just about the thrill of the drive with Maserati – it’s also about long-distance luxury. Here are a few of the high points. CLIMATE CONTROL Recently updated with new features, the automatic dual-zone climate control adjusts ventilation intensity according to outdoor temperature to make sure nothing compromises your comfort, whatever the weather. This is easily done via the Maserati Touch Control Plus display – with newly enhanced graphics that include fan power strength – or the control panel beneath it. There are no fewer than 13 ventilation outlets, so the perfect climate is established very quickly. Thanks to a humidity sensor, the system can also reduce the moisture content of the air to stop the windows misting up. AIR QUALITY SENSOR Every Ghibli version features an Air Quality Sensor as standard to keep the air quality high for all on board. This monitors external pollution and keeps it out of the cabin. Airborne particulates are also effectively filtered out. 64 KEYLESS GO/KEYLESS ENTRY Detail is everything to Maserati – right down to the design of the remote aluminium key fob, which reflects the style of the Ghibli and incorporates Keyless Go technology. The standard Keyless Entry function enables you to open the doors or boot via the handles, without touching the key fob. But the best is still to come; marvel as the engine roars into life the moment you press the ignition button. This button will always be on the side you enter your Maserati; a tradition that dates back to our Le Mans racing days when drivers would clamber in at breakneck speed to start the car and get going. STORAGE COMPARTMENTS The interior of the Maserati Ghibli features a host of storage compartments. Along with the spacious, illuminated, climate-controlled glove box, there are two cupholders in the central tunnel and a handy cubbyhole for the storage of small items. Underneath the front armrests, there is another illuminated, climate-controlled compartment, with two more cupholders and a 12V power outlet. In the rear, the bench seat is divided by a fold-down central armrest that can be equipped with a 12V power source and a USB port. POWER BOOT LID WITH HANDS-FREE MODE This optional feature makes the travel experience in your Ghibli even easier. Thanks to electric actuators and a motorised latch, it’s possible to open or close the lightweight boot lid automatically. This is done either via the key fob, pressing a button on the interior door panel or by simply moving your foot under the rear bumper. Accessing the boot this way is particularly welcome when your hands are full. To ensure security, it only works when the system detects the presence of your key. GLASSWORK The Ghibli offers a host of clever touches when it comes to its glasswork. Options include electrochromic door mirrors that darken progressively as the light intensity from behind increases, and a rear windscreen sunshade to enhance privacy and screen passengers from sunlight. Dark-tinted privacy glass at the rear is also available. For greater thermal insulation and quieter journeys, the Ghibli can even be specified with double laminated, acoustic rear glass windows. This, needless to say, is a standard feature of both the front windscreen and the front side windows. BOOT SPACE The Maserati Ghibli boot offers a capacious 500 litres of luggage space along with a host of typically thoughtful practicalities. As well as a light, there’s also a handy 12V power outlet and chromed rings to connect the optional luggage net. And when it comes to long or bulky items, the rear bench seatback folds down asymmetrically to make life easy. 67 T TECHNOLOGY Sophistication AND EXHILARATION The sophisticated ZF eight-speed automatic transmission in the Maserati Ghibli puts a vast world of possibilities in the palm of your hand – and, if tempted, your fingertips. The advanced design of the ZF eight-speed automatic transmission ensures precise gear changes and optimum performance, putting the power of the Ghibli engines under your complete control. Thanks to auto-adaptive software, the transmission modifies its shift patterns according to driving style, for an even more rewarding, one-to-one driving experience. And when it comes to long, high-speed journeys, the last two gears, seventh and eighth, are specially calibrated to reduce fuel consumption and further increase comfort. The transmission sends power to the rear wheels of all Ghibli versions via a standard mechanical Limited-Slip Differential. This ensures superb traction even in challenging situations. Operation has recently been made even more effortless with a new gear lever design featuring separate lanes for RND and manual selection. With only one setting per lane in each direction, the short travel further enhances engine responsiveness. The dedicated Park button on the lever only adds to the convenience. For maximum driver involvement, there are five operating modes, selected using the buttons near the gear lever: Auto Normal, Auto Sport, Manual Normal, Manual Sport, and Increased Control & Efficiency (I.C.E.). Upshifts are all automatic unless a manual mode is selected. AUTO NORMAL MODE This pre-set mode provides smooth gearshifts at low revs to maximise ride comfort and minimise fuel consumption. When a sportier style of driving is recognised, upshifts automatically take place at higher engine speeds. AUTO SPORT MODE In this mode, gearshifts take place in under 100 milliseconds and occur at higher revs. This guarantees a near-seamless flow of exhilarating high power and a far more sporty driving style. What’s more, on petrol-engine versions, overboost is activated. This gives access to peak torque at a considerably reduced engine speed. Integrated Vehicle Control (IVC) adds to the excitement, giving the driver even more dynamic control. MANUAL NORMAL MODE This allows the driver to change gear using the optional paddles behind the steering wheel or the lever on the central tunnel. The system automatically shifts up a gear as the red line approaches, and shifts down in the same way. MANUAL SPORT MODE In Manual Sport, the driver takes full control of the transmission: the overboost function is activated for maximum performance, gearshifts are quicker and sharper, and the engine can be pushed to the limit without the system intervening. The only automatic feature is downshifting if the revs drop too low. I.C.E. (INCREASED CONTROL & EFFICIENCY) MODE This mode ensures better control in all weather conditions, the most comfortable and quietest engine response, and minimal fuel consumption. 71 Composure IS PLEASURE Lightweight construction, intelligent systems and trusted principles are key to the inimitable pleasures of grand touring in the Maserati Ghibli. A fundamentally solid platform and a trusted 50:50 formula are both key to the joys of grand touring in a Maserati. With the Ghibli range, this is demonstrated by a rigid and extremely secure steel cell using an array of steel and aluminium alloys. Together, the configuration maximises strength, minimises weight and retains the sports saloon's perfect 50:50 weight distribution. FRONT AND REAR SUSPENSION Double wishbone suspension layouts are a race-bred tradition at Maserati. With the Ghibli, the all-aluminium set-up at the front is specially positioned to ensure effortlessly precise handling. It’s also designed to guarantee accurate, communicative and comfortable steering. At the rear, a five-arm multilink system provides the perfect blend of high-level executive comfort and dynamic performance. 72 SKYHOOK SUSPENSION The Ghibli GranSport features the Skyhook suspension as standard, with shock absorbers delivering continuous damping variation. The system uses sensors that monitor the movement of each wheel and the car’s body to determine the road conditions and how the car is being driven. It then instantly adjusts the settings of each damper accordingly. The basic setting gives priority to ride comfort, but if more dynamic handling is required, a simple press of the suspension button on the central tunnel stiffens shock absorbers immediately. This significantly reduces load transfer during fast cornering. In both modes, the Skyhook system stays active and continuously adapts to the road to maximise traction. ELECTRIC POWER STEERING (EPS) All Ghibli versions feature EPS as standard, without compromising the responsiveness that is such an important part of our DNA. This system is designed to provide the excellent road-feel expected from Maserati and is particularly efficient, as it is powered directly by the engine when needed, so there is no need for a hydraulic pump. What’s more, with no pressurised fluid under the bonnet, less maintenance is required. The system adapts its weight according to speed, being lighter and easy to turn when manoeuvring in a tight spot, for instance. Conversely it has a weightier, more connected feel at high speeds. Another plus point is integration with the optional active Advanced Driving Assistance Systems such as Highway Assist, Lane Keeping Assist and Active Blind Spot Assist. INTEGRATED VEHICLE CONTROL It’s often better to be proactive, rather than reactive, especially when it comes to driving dynamics. Integrated Vehicle Control (IVC) anticipates any issues that could cause instability and counteracts them within the blink of an eye. The system works by selectively reducing engine torque and applying brakeforce to individual wheels as required. The result, out on the open road or through sweeping twists and turns, is increased safety, greater driving enjoyment and potentially higher speeds. BRAKES All versions of the Maserati Ghibli feature powerful Brembo brakes carefully matched to engine performance. The discs are dual-cast, combining the strength of cast iron with the lightness of aluminium to reduce unsprung mass and, therefore, increase handling prowess. Braking power is provided by efficient monobloc callipers, with six pistons at the front and four at the rear acting on ventilated, cross drilled discs. These callipers not only deliver extremely short stopping distances (35 metres from 62 to 0 mph) but are also highly resistant to fade when the car is driven hard and fast over long distances. As an option, the brake callipers can be specified in black, blue, silver or red. 75 Innovation FOR A CONNECTED WORLD A comprehensive infotainment package for the 2019 Ghibli puts the focus on intuitive engagement, real-world assistance and adaptable enjoyment. The interior of the Ghibli is built around a driver interface that is intuitive, uncluttered and simple to use. The instrument cluster features large analogue gauges for the tachometer and speedometer, alongside a 7” TFT display. Major dynamic functions are incorporated into the buttons alongside the gearshift, while other on-board settings can be set using the Maserati Touch Control Plus (MTC+) infotainment system at the centre of the dashboard, or the steering wheel controls for the 7” TFT display. MASERATI TOUCH CONTROL PLUS The 8.4” Maserati Touch Control Plus (MTC+) unit takes pride of place at the centre of the Ghibli dashboard. With very few buttons plus a highly responsive interface, it is designed to help the driver maintain focus on the road ahead and mastering it is intuitive and easy. MTC+ can be operated in three ways: via the multi-touchscreen, the rotary control in the central console, or through voice commands. The system 76 incorporates the car’s radio, Bluetooth®, and satellite navigation system, along with connections to external sources such as mobile phones, tablets and laptop computers. Using Aux-in, USB sockets or the SD card reader, you can also play music. In addition, MTC+ controls the front seat heating, as well as the ventilation, steering wheel heating and the operation of the rear sunblind, where fitted. The screen also displays the rear view, with guidelines for the reversing camera. The state-of-the-art system features both Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto® mirroring functions. In addition, for iPhone® users, Apple’s Siri® system acts as a personal assistant, allowing them to carry out tasks using voice command. Through naturally spoken language, it is possible to make a call or access music, messages, reminders, emails, websites and much more. T THE SOUND OF QUALITY Immersive AUDIO The exhilaration of the drive, the luxurious comforts and the dramatically tuned engine note are not the only onboard entertainments. There are also some exceptional audio system choices. The Ghibli features a powerful sound system as standard: two tweeters on the dashboard, a substantial woofer in each door and two additional tweeters in the rear doors, all powered by a 280-watt head unit that delivers a clear and perfectly defined audio image to all onboard. You can also, however, step up to one of two remarkable systems. HARMAN KARDON PREMIUM SOUND SYSTEM The optional Harman Kardon Premium Sound system offers the most elevated levels of audio refinement, with every component uniquely tailored to perfectly match the Ghibli interior. To achieve this, Harman Kardon sound engineers worked very closely with the development team at Maserati. The core of the system is a state-of-the-art, 900-watt amplifier, delivering rich and detailed sound quality, whatever the source − be it radio, MP3 player, iPhone® or audio streaming device. No fewer than 12 independent channels are deployed, for superb balance within the car environment. A special high-performance subwoofer handles the low-end frequencies with ease, while the mid-range drivers and tweeters ensure that every instrument and every artist can be appreciated to the full. And with the 10 high-powered speakers carefully distributed throughout the cabin, this system guarantees sublime sound for all on board the Ghibli. 81 The AFICIONADO’S CHOICE For those seeking the ultimate acoustics in their Maserati Ghibli, the answer is the new-generation Bowers & Wilkins Surround Sound system – the last word in sound perfection. Driving a Maserati is an emotional experience, with every piece of technology and every trim detail designed to connect on a human level. The same can be said of the Bowers & Wilkins Surround Sound system. This audio package is the product of 50 years of Bowers & Wilkins’ countless hours of testing and even extensive research in the field of psychoacoustics – the science of how people react emotionally to sound. Fifteen speakers, with mid-range drivers and rear woofers made from Kevlar®, have been strategically built into the car’s architecture, while a 1,280-watt amplifier ensures immersive sound for all on board. Advanced aluminium tweeters capture the faintest audio subtleties, while a rock-solid bass is guaranteed by Rohacell® in the system’s bass drivers – Rohacell® being a stiff, highly resilient material often used in the construction of rockets and aircraft. The system features QuantumLogic™ Surround Sound Technology, which digitally remodels signal streams and reconstructs the original recording of a musical piece, creating a concert hall experience in the car. Along with this, the Clari-Fi function automatically restores detail lost in digitally compressed music, and removes distortions caused by the process in real time. The Bowers & Wilkins system is compatible with most disc formats and features a built-in USB connector for a smartphone, iPod or MP3 player. Alternatively, tracks can be streamed directly either via Bluetooth®, Apple CarPlay® or Android Auto®. 83 S SAFETY Advanced DRIVING ASSISTANCE SYSTEMS The Ghibli is equipped with an impressively comprehensive range of optional Advanced Driving Assistance Systems. It means even greater peace of mind, whether you’re on an exclusive grand tour or a dash through the city. TRAFFIC SIGN RECOGNITION It can be easy to miss traffic signs sometimes, for all sorts of reasons. This is where Traffic Sign Recognition comes in. It monitors three types of sign: speed limits, temporary speed limits due to conditions such as heavy rain, and no-overtaking zones. It then displays the signs digitally in the instrument panel’s cluster display. The system works with a digital camera mounted behind the rear-view mirror and data from the navigation system. HIGHWAY ASSIST SYSTEM (HAS) This combines the virtues of Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keeping Assist to make life even easier on motorways, while achieving level 2 semiautonomous driving. Using information picked up from a digital camera mounted behind the rear-view mirror and a radar system in the front grille, HAS automatically keeps the vehicle centred in its lane, at a pre-selected speed and at a chosen distance from the vehicle ahead. It will even decelerate the Ghibli through to a standstill as the traffic dictates. To ensure safety, HAS requires the driver to keep his or her hands on the steering wheel at all times. LANE KEEPING ASSIST (LKA) This provides valuable support if the driver is about to unintentionally leave a lane. A digital camera behind the rear-view mirror continuously monitors road markings to keep track of the course ahead. The instrument panel display shows the specific status. White lines on either side of the vehicle image indicate that it is safely in lane. One yellow line indicates that the Ghibli is moving off-centre, right or left. And one flashing yellow line warns of lane departure. At that point, when the Visual & Haptic box is selected in the touchscreen display, LKA actively steps in with corrective steering torque. LANE DEPARTURE WARNING SYSTEM Thanks to a camera in the rear-view mirror that monitors road markings ahead, the Lane Departure Warning system helps the driver keep the vehicle in the chosen lane on motorways and main roads. This reduces lane drift and the possibility of lateral collisions by providing a warning when the vehicle crosses lane markings without signalling. Activation of the turn indicator overrides the system. ACTIVE BLIND SPOT ASSIST With this system, a warning icon appears in the side mirrors when a vehicle enters the driver’s blind spot. Three levels of support can be selected if the driver nonetheless initiates a lane change. Either the system maintains the visual alert in the side mirrors, the alerts are backed up with an acoustic warning, or the system intervenes with steering torque. The intensity of this torque is also adaptable according to preference. 87 ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL WITH STOP & GO Adaptive Cruise Control constantly monitors the vehicle ahead, maintaining a pre-set distance. With the Stop & Go function, the car will also adjust to the speed of the vehicle in front until it comes to a complete stop, if the stop is less than two seconds. SURROUND VIEW CAMERA This provides a clear 360° view around the car, helping with parking and highlighting otherwise hidden obstructions. Images are captured by two cameras beneath the door mirrors plus front and rear cameras and shown on the main display screen. FORWARD COLLISION WARNING PLUS This, in combination with Adaptive Cruise Control, monitors vehicles ahead and warns if the approach could result in a rear-end collision. It is linked to the Advanced Brake Assist system, which provides additional braking during an emergency stop. If the warning does not prompt any action from the driver, the Autonomous Emergency Braking system automatically applies the brakes to reduce the car’s speed. FRONT AND REAR PARKING SENSORS AND REVERSING CAMERA To assist with manoeuvring in tight spaces, the Ghibli comes equipped with parking sensors in the front and rear bumpers. Beeping noises increase in frequency as the obstacle approaches, while the TFT display in the centre of the instrument panel shows the car surrounded by symbols which light up in green, yellow or red depending on the remaining distance. In addition, there is an optional rear-view camera, fitted close to the boot lock, that shows a view of what is behind the car on the Maserati display. Dynamic grid lines illustrate the maximum width of the vehicle and its projected path, based on the steering angle of the front wheels. REAR CROSS PATH FUNCTION This is a welcome feature that emits a warning when an unseen vehicle is approaching, from the right or left, while reversing out of a parking space. 88 Comprehensive SAFETY Maserati made safety a top priority when designing the Ghibli. So not only does it provide mile after mile of high-powered luxury, it also has the full 5-star EURO NCAP safety rating. THE MASERATI STABILITY PROGRAM Developed in the most extreme test conditions, the Maserati Stability Program (MSP) uses an array of sensors to constantly monitor driving status. It can then deploy a host of safety and performance systems to maintain handling and grip. If, for instance, a skid is detected, MSP selectively reduces engine torque and can activate the brakes with finely varied inputs to restore stability within milliseconds. The MSP system also works in harmony with functions including Anti Slip Regulation (ASR), which reduces wheel spin and improves traction, and engine brake torque control (MSR) that prevents the wheels from locking up when suddenly changing down gears. Additionally, antilock brakes (ABS) and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) stop the wheels from locking and distribute brakeforce between the front and rear axles. Further support is provided by the Brake Assist System (BAS). This recognises emergency stops and boosts the pressure in the hydraulic circuit to maximise stopping power. A Hill Holder, meanwhile, helps the driver when starting off on an uphill slope. FULL-LED ADAPTIVE MATRIX HEADLIGHTS WITH ANTI-GLARE HIGH-BEAM ASSIST The GranLusso and GranSport are fitted with full-LED Adaptive Matrix headlights that even further sharpen the striking Maserati look, significantly improve visibility and lower energy usage. They also offer remarkably long bulb life. With 15 LEDs operating at full beam, these headlights offer a 200% greater field of vision than traditional halogen lights. Road illumination extends by 55 metres and bulb longevity is roughly twice as long. Its glare-free technology enables drivers to gain the full benefits of their headlights without affecting oncoming vehicles. This uses a digital camera behind the rear-view mirror to detect approaching vehicles. It then directs the light away from the other vehicles, leaving them untroubled by glare. The surrounding areas, meanwhile, remain safely and effectively lit with near-daylight quality illumination. ADAPTIVE DRIVING BEAM (ADB) This automatically adjusts the width and depth of the headlight beams, giving maximum lighting effectiveness and optimal safety. This is made possible by a camera mounted in the rear-view mirror and sensors that monitor several different parameters, including the steering wheel position, the car’s speed and the way it is being driven. ADB comes on automatically when driving in bad weather, on motorways or in town. TYRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM The system, standard on all Ghibli versions, continuously monitors tyre pressure using a sensor integrated with the valve. The pressure can be read on the dashboard display. In the case of a puncture or a change in tyre pressure, the system notifies the driver with visual and acoustic warnings. SEVEN AIRBAGS The Maserati Ghibli is equipped with seven airbags. Two at the front, both dual-stage, shield the driver and front passenger in the event of collision, while torsos and hips are further protected by two side bags in the front seats. There are also two window airbags in the roof next to the central pillar. Finally, a seventh airbag protects the driver’s legs. 91 T TAILORED TO YOU From the A6 series of grand tourers to the 5000 GT Shah of Persia, Maserati is renowned for offering remarkably high levels of personalisation and options. This means that customers can tailor their cars to precisely suit their own taste. Each owner can choose from a wide range of exterior metallic or specialised paint finishes, brake calliper colours, alloy wheels, interior trims and contrast-colour stitching. There are also meticulously assembled packages to choose from. 95 Alloy WHEELS AND BRAKE CALLIPERS Offering an extensive opportunity for individual expression, Ghibli now offers a choice of 10 different alloy wheels, covering four different sizes. 18” VULCANO (Silver Finish) Often depicted holding a blacksmith’s hammer, Vulcan was the god of fire, metalworking and the forge, all so fundamental to Roman civilisation. How appropriate, then, that Vulcan should lend his name to this stylish, lightweight 12-spoke alloy design offering timeless appeal and astounding responsiveness on the road. 19” POSEIDONE (Silver Finish) 19” PROTEO (Silver Finish) Poseidon was the god of the sea. His trident, a striking symbol of power and majesty, inspired Mario Maserati to Another god of the sea, Proteus is associated with the constantly changing nature of the ocean − calm and still create the company logo nearly a hundred years ago. The rim that takes Poseidon’s name is an alluring lightweight one moment, swirling and turbulent the next. Typifying this spirit of never-ending change, our sophisticated alloy that perfectly encapsulates the blend of performance and style for which Maserati is renowned. multi-spoke alloy sets a new standard with its refined and spellbinding design. 20” URANO (Glossy Black / Machine-Polished / Glossy Black and Machine-Polished Finish) God of the skies, Uranus was master of the heavens just as this commanding alloy design is master of the road. Killed by his son, legend has it that Urano’s blood trickled to the earth across the Sicilian region, transforming it into rich, fertile ground. Featuring either a glossy black or a polished finish – with or without black pockets – the rim bearing his name offers a similar abundance of choice. 20“ TESEO (Silver / Miron Finish) 21” TITANO (Silver / Glossy Black Finish) Theseus was the mythical founder and king of Athens; a hero who endured a journey of labours, overcoming In Greek mythology, the Titans preceded the Olympian gods, giving them a beloved and honoured status that still ogres and beasts along the way. Equally powerful and resilient, the Teseo alloy rim, the latest addition to the survives today. Over the centuries, Titanic grew to mean “exceptional size and power”, which is a perfectly apt range, is available in a standard finish or in a highly aesthetic dark alternative which presents a distinct and description of this imposing rim, available in a choice of standard or glossy black finish. menacing appearance. Calliper colours BLACK RED SILVER BLUE SILVER POLISHED MICA PAINT Exterior PERSONALISATION SOLID PAINT NERO RIBELLE Maserati was ever the rebel – unconventional, radical and unique, just like this deep and intense black, which suggests the immersive brilliance of Italian dark marbles and granite. BLU EMOZIONE This brilliant blue expresses the true Maserati soul – an emotional link back in time to the brand’s glorious heritage. A tribute to the colour of Bologna where the company was founded in 1914. BIANCO White is colour at its most complete and pure. It is the colour of perfection, innocence and new beginnings – a blank canvas on which to make your indelible mark. BLU PASSIONE A subtle blue for those with a passion for travelling long distances in comfort and style, who are mindful of Maserati’s grand touring heritage. ROSSO FOLGORE A colour inspired by Italy’s legendary parachute regiment, known as the ‘Folgore’ − and their distinctive red berets. NERO Black is synonymous with discipline, independence and a strong will. A Maserati in black means power, control and authority – and your very own haven from the outside world. METALLIC PAINT METALLESCENT PAINT GRIGIO Grey is an indication of maturity and responsibility that creates a sense of calm and composure – the perfect colour for masking the awesome power of what lies beneath. TRI-COAT PAINT BLU NOBILE Deep dark blue with sparkling glass flakes, which glimmer when exposed to sunlight and enhance the unique design of our cars. Evoking the beauty and tranquility of nature, this imperious blue complements the effortlessly flowing lines of the Ghibli. 106 BIANCO ALPI A brilliant, shining and sporty white that reflects the purity of the snow-clad Italian Alps, so renowned for their skiing and winter sports activities. 107 Interior PERSONALISATION HIGH-GLOSS CARBON FIBRE TWILL Developed to emphasise the sporty nature of Maserati, this new trim has a glossy top coat which presents a textured 3D look and adds further exclusivity to the cabin. HIGH-GLOSS ROVERE VENEER The tree bearing this wood is the symbol of one of the most powerful Italian noble families, and it is the fine stripes and glossy top coat that give this trim its distinctive look. BLACK PIANO Nothing captures the elegance and potency of Ghibli more completely than this dramatic black trim which helps to create a purposeful environment for the driver focused on the road ahead. EBONY HIGH-GLOSS Notoriously difficult to carve, ebony is one of the most refined hardwoods available. The gloss finish brings a sparkle to the interior, adding an extra dimension to the natural darkness of the wood. RADICA OPEN-PORE The Radica plant is native to the Mediterranean and flourishes on the hillsides of Italy’s mountainous regions. The open-pore finish gives a softer, more natural look. Our elegant interior trim options help to create a lavish environment for the driver. The choice includes two new additions to the range which embody the different sides of the Maserati personality: high-level performance and sublime luxury. 108 109 SEATS 110 PIENO FIORE LEATHER LEATHER FULL PREMIUM LEATHER BLACK BLACK DARK BROWN BLACK BLACK WITH GREY STITCHING TAN TAN RED TAN BLACK WITH RED STITCHING BEIGE BEIGE BLUE RED BLACK WITH TAN STITCHING BLACK WITH GREY STITCHING BLACK WITH GREY STITCHING BLACK WITH RED STITCHING RED WITH BLACK STITCHING BLACK WITH RED STITCHING BLACK WITH TAN STITCHING RED WITH BLACK STITCHING 111 UPPER DASHBOARD / UPPER DOOR PANELS STEERING WHEEL CARPET / SEAT BELTS HEADLINING BLACK DARK BROWN BLACK / TAN BLACK BLACK BLACK BLACK / RED DARK BROWN / BLUE BLACK WITH GREY STITCHING DARK BROWN DARK BROWN GREY BLACK WITH TAN STITCHING BLACK WITH RED STITCHING BLACK WITH BEIGE STITCHING BEIGE BEIGE BEIGE DARK BROWN WITH BEIGE STITCHING LOWER DASHBOARD / SIDE DOOR PANELS / ARMREST CENTRAL TUNNEL BLACK 112 DARK BROWN BEIGE 113 Ghibli 1461 TECNICAL SPECIFICATIONS AND EQUIPMENT 935 1635 2998 4971 1945 1038 DIMENSIONS AND WEIGHTS Length Width (with side mirrors) Width (without side mirrors) Height Wheelbase Front track GHIBLI DIESEL 4971 mm 2128 mm 1945 mm 1461 mm 2998 mm 1635 mm GHIBLI 4971 mm 2128 mm 1945 mm 1461 mm 2998 mm 1635 mm Rear track Front overhang Rear overhang Turning circle Boot capacity Fuel tank capacity Vehicle weight 1653 mm 935 mm 1038 mm 11700 mm 500 l 70 l 1875 kg 1653 mm 935 mm 1038 mm 11700 mm 500 l 80 l 1810 kg ENGINE Number of cylinders and layout Displacement Bore Stroke Turbodiesel 60° V6 2987 cm³ 83 mm 92 mm Petrol 60° V6 2979 cm³ 86.5 mm 84.5 mm Compression ratio Max. power output Engine speed at max. power output Peak torque Engine speed at peak torque 16.5:1 275 HP (202 kW) 4000 rpm 600 Nm 2000−2600 rpm 9.7:1 350 HP (257 kW) 5500 rpm 500 Nm 4500 rpm TRANSMISSION Transmission Automatic 8 gears Automatic 8 gears Maximum speed Acceleration (0−62 mph) Stopping distance (62−0 mph) Fuel consumption (combined) CO2 emissions (combined) 155 mph (250 km/h) 6.3 s 36 m 33.2–35.7 mpg (8.5–7.9 l/100km) 198–184 g/km 165 mph (267 km/h) 5.5 s 35.5 m 23.5–24.9 mpg (12.0–11.3 l/100km) 257–255 g/km Regulation Euro 6 Euro 6 2128 PERFORMANCE 1653 114 115 MASERATI GHIBLI MY19 Standard and Optional Equipment GHIBLI GHIBLI GRANLUSSO GHIBLI GHIBLI GRANLUSSO GHIBLI GRANSPORT Heated windscreen washer nozzles P P P Front and rear parking sensors with graphic cluster display of object distance P GHIBLI GRANSPORT WHEELS & CHASSIS Airbag system: dual-stage front bags (driver and passenger), side bags, head bags — 18” alloy wheels (235/50 R18 front; 235/50 R18 rear) - Vulcano — Driver's knee-bag Passenger airbag activation 19” alloy wheels (245/45 R19 front; 275/40 R19 rear) - Poseidone Manual height-adjustable front seat belts with pre-tensioners and load limiters; rear seat belts with load limiters 19” alloy wheels (245/45 R19 front; 275/40 R19 rear) - Proteo Integrated Vehicle Control (IVC) 20” machine-polished alloy wheels (245/40 R20 front; 285/35 R20 rear) - Urano Maserati Stability Program (MSP) - includes: - Anti Slip Regulation (ASR) - Antilock Braking System (ABS) - Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) - Engine brake torque control (MSR) 20” machine-polished alloy wheels with black pockets (245/40 R20 front; 285/35 R20 rear) - Urano 20” glossy black alloy wheels (245/40 R20 front; 285/35 R20 rear) - Urano 20” alloy wheels (245/40 R20 front; 285/35 R20 rear) - Teseo 20” Miron alloy wheels (245/40 R20 front; 285/35 R20 rear) - Teseo 21” forged alloy wheels (245/35 R21 front; 285/30 R21 rear) - Titano I.C.E. The Ghibli, however, is produced at a recently opened facility in Grugliasco, just outside Turin. The Avvocato Giovanni Agnelli Plant (AGAP) – named after the Fiat chairman who was grandson to the company’s founder – is the production site for the Ghibli and Quattroporte. And while cutting-edge automotive technology is used throughout the process, skilled technicians man each station, keeping the assembly very much a handcrafted affair. By applying proven practices developed through the company’s World Class Manufacturing (WCM) system, the plant has a strong culture dedicated to producing the highest quality vehicles. Each car is made to order and, with millions of combinations of mechanical and trim specifications possible, a document is signed at each station to ensure that the car is built to the customer’s exact individual requirements. At Grugliasco, passion and production go handin-hand, maintaining the proud traditions of a globally celebrated brand. 140 Nothing LEFT TO CHANCE Testing plays a crucial part in the manufacturing process at Grugliasco, with 16 special quality control stations arranged along the line. Every single Maserati passes through these, and more than 700 checks are carried out. After completion, the Ghibli is subjected to tests that look at everything from the integrity of its weatherproofing to its handling on different road surfaces. Each car is run on a set of dynamic rollers and then taken out for an intensive 30-mile road evaluation on a wide mix of surfaces and terrains, including mountains, motorways and city streets. In a modern world dominated by cost-efficiency, hands-on testing is becoming increasingly rare. For Maserati, however, putting a car through its paces before it leaves the factory is still a vital step in producing a new vehicle. Our firm belief is that robots will never be able to replace certain human aspects of the manufacturing process. Finally, senior Maserati inspectors go over the vehicle with the kid-glove treatment, wrapping it in a protective covering before it makes its way to the dealer and, ultimately, its new owner. 142 FINANCIAL SERVICES AND CUSTOMER PROGRAMS BECOME A MASTER OF DRIVING MASTER MASERATI DRIVING COURSES All Maserati cars embody the principles of GranTurismo.
