Summary of Content
Maserati Ghibli. History 2 Over 100 years of power and glory. On 1st December 1914, Alfieri, Ernesto and Ettore Maserati set up their own business in Bologna, modifying Isotta Fraschinis for competitions. By 1926, they had produced their own racing car, the Maserati Tipo 26, which promptly won its class in the Targa Florio of that year, serving notice to the world that a major new force in the field of motor sport had arrived. In the 1930s, ’40s and ’50s, Maserati enjoyed success after success on the racetrack, with wins that included two Indianapolis 500s, 29 victories in Formula 1, and the 1957 F1 World Championship, won by Fangio driving a 250F. 1947 saw the company turn its attention to the manufacture of passenger cars with the sublime Maserati A6 grand tourer, followed in 1957 by the 3500 GT 2+2 sports coupé that introduced a number of important innovations, such as twin-spark ignition, disc brakes and fuel injection. In 1963, Maserati showcased the world’s first luxury four-door sports sedan, the Quattroporte, and in the late ’60s and ’70s, launched a series of ultra-high performance supercars, the Mistral, Khamsin, Bora, and the first Ghibli. After several changes in ownership, Fiat acquired Maserati in 1993. Currently an autonomous division within Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Maserati boasts a class-leading range that covers the entire luxury sector of the international car market, and is seeing ever-growing interest in the legendary ‘Marque of the Trident’. Today, Maserati is nothing less than an Italian icon - a symbol of creativity, passion, innovation and style. Its combination of craftsmanship, technology and painstaking attention to detail creates highly desirable cars that never fail to excite and inspire. Maserati Ghibli. History 4 Ghibli SS, 1970 Technologies may change but the passion is eternal. Maserati Ghibli. Range 8 Deciding on a Maserati Ghibli is easy. Choosing which one is perhaps a little harder. For most of its long and illustrious history, owning a Maserati was the preserve of the famous and the super-rich – the original 1967 Ghibli being a prime example of this. However, today the enjoyment of driving a high performance, Italian masterpiece is no longer just for the world’s elite: the latest Maserati Ghibli is designed to make stimulating motoring an everyday experience for a somewhat wider clientele. The only question that remains is which one to choose? To appeal to the widest possible audience, there is a choice of three engines and all-wheel drive, as well. The standard Ghibli features the potent 350 HP 3.0 litre Twin Turbo V6 petrol engine, whilst the same unit in the Ghibli S is boosted to an awesome 410 HP. The Ghibli S also benefits from various enhancements to its trim and specification. For those seeking the ultimate in traction, there is the Ghibli S Q4, which adds Maserati’s highly acclaimed Q4 all-wheel drive system. Alternatively, diesel aficionados can opt for the Ghibli Diesel and its decidedly sporty 275 HP 3.0 V6 turbo-diesel unit. Maserati Ghibli. Exterior Design 10 Styling so seductive. And so tactile. The styling of the Maserati Ghibli is simply breathtaking from whichever angle it is seen, with gorgeous lines, curves and contours that invite not only a long and admiring gaze but also a gentle fingertip caress. Such a car could only be created by Italian designers, masters of their craft who have succeeded in instilling within the Ghibli a sense of heritage and originality, memory and vision, beauty and sensuality. Key to the Ghibli’s dramatic, yet elegant appearance is its stunning silhouette and frameless door windows that give this four door sedan the appearance of a sports coupé. The front of the car is dominated by the distinctive Maserati grille, with concave vertical fillets inspired by the legendary Maserati A6GCS Berlinetta, whilst in the middle, there is the marque’s iconic trident badge The grille’s traditional oval shape narrows at the top, where it meets the aggressive headlights, with eye-catching LED daytime running lights that emphasize the car’s powerful persona. Continuing along the sides, Maserati’s customary three air vents are featured prominently, as well as the celebrated Saetta logo on the triangular C-pillar. Two curved lines merge together before giving way to the muscular rear end where the boot become the natural continuation of the cabin. The car’s sportiness is enhanced by quad chrome exhaust tailpipes – not to mention the inspirational words ‘Maserati’ and ‘Ghibli’ in the company’s classic script. Maserati Ghibli. Interior Design 12 Exhilaration in the lap of italian handcrafted luxury. The Maserati Ghibli is a rare and remarkable car. Not only does it provide the ultimate in driving enjoyment through its prodigious power and phenomenal handling, but at the same time it pampers and cossets its occupants in an atmosphere of luxury and spaciousness – its long wheelbase providing one of the roomiest interiors in the sports sedan category. The seats are upholstered in soft leather, which can also be specified for the dashboard and doors in dual colour combinations for either a sporty or more elegant interior look. The leather’s stitching is quite exquisite, reflecting the very finest traditions of Italian craftsmanship - the precision of the trident logos that are either embossed or stitched on the headrests being a clear indication of the painstaking attention to detail given to the seats. The front seats can be electrically operated, with those in the Ghibli S and S Q4 benefiting from 8-way adjustment plus four lumbar settings. In the rear, there is a supremely comfortable, asymmetrically folding leather rear bench seat for three people, complete with a central armrest that contains a storage compartment and cupholders. The smooth lines of the dashboard surround the occupants with an atmosphere of opulence: two side panels converge in the centre, drawing in the top section that features the traditional Maserati clock with its blue face and aluminium detailing. The large speedometer and rev counter have elegant white backlighting and are separated by a 7” TFT display that shows the car’s dynamic data. In the central console, there is the very latest 8.4” multi-touch-screen infotainment system with an additional rotary control, along with a handy new phone storage box. Other functions are then controlled by a cluster of driver-orientated buttons on the central tunnel beside the gear lever. Meanwhile, the three-spoke, leather clad, multifunction steering wheel provides controls for interacting with the main multimedia functions. On the Ghibli and Ghibli Diesel, the interior details are in metallic-effect dark mirror trim finish, whereas on the Ghibli S and S Q4 they come in open-pore Radica wood. For those wishing to opt for either a more classic or sportier interior appearance, polished Ebony, Light Oak, Piano Black or Carbon Fibre finishes are also available. The luxury and class of Maserati cars have always been underlined by the presence of a highly distinctive clock on the dashboard. For the Ghibli, Maserati commissioned skilled clockmakers to create a unique, refined timepiece styled to match the vehicle. Maserati Ghibli. Interior Design 14 CLIMATE CONTROL The automatic dual-zone climate control automatically adjusts the intensity of the ventilation in relation to the outdoor temperature, and allows those in the front seats to select their own individual heat settings. With thirteen ventilation outlets, it is able to cool or heat the car extremely rapidly - the temperatures being set by means of the Maserati Touch Control display or the control panel beneath it. The system is fitted with a humidity sensor that is programmed to reduce the moisture content of the air as soon as the windows start to mist up. In addition, all Ghibli versions are equipped with Air Quality Sensor. This standard feature combines an intelligent sensor and an analysis system that calculates the external pollution levels and prevents polluted air and toxic gases from entering the car’s cabin, giving the occupants the cleanest and safest air to breathe. In addition, the effective filtering of airborne particulates can also play a part in maintaining the health of all onboard. KEYLESS GO / KEYLESS ENTRY In the world of Maserati, small details are everything – right down to the design of the remote aluminium key fob, which reflects the style of the Ghibli and incorporates Keyless Go technology. The standard Keyless Entry function enables the driver to open the doors or boot via the handles, without ever touching the key fob. Once inside the car, the driver has only to press the ignition button to start the engine. STORAGE COMPARTMENTS The interior of the Maserati Ghibli features numerous storage compartments. Along with the spacious, illuminated, climate-controlled glove box, there are two cupholders in the central tunnel and a handy cubbyhole for the storage of small items. Underneath the front armrests, there is another illuminated, climate-controlled compartment, with two more cupholders and a 12V power outlet. In the rear, the bench seat is divided by a fold-down central armrest that can be equipped with a 12V power source and a USB port. BOOT The Maserati Ghibli features a boot that is designed to provide the very best in space and versatility. Its generous capacity of 500 litres accommodates large suitcases with ease, whilst providing convenient features such as a boot light, a handy 12V power outlet and special chromed rings to connect the optional luggage net. The rear bench seatback can also be folded down asymmetrically for the transportation of particularly large items. A Power Boot Lid is an option that enables several ways of automatically opening and closing the boot: by using the key fob, by pressing a button on the interior door panel or the buttons of the boot lid, or by placing a foot under the rear bumper. The Maserati Ghibli can be equipped with other options that have been designed to make driving safer and even more rewarding. These include electrochromic door mirrors that darken progressively as the light intensity from behind increases, and a rear windscreen sunshade to enhance privacy and screen the back seat passengers from sunlight. Darktinted privacy glass at the rear is also an option. For greater thermal insulation and quieter journeys, the Ghibli can be specified with double laminated, acoustic glass windows (a standard feature of the front windscreen). Ermenegildo Zegna dressed Maserati 16 Interior design by Ermenegildo Zegna. Another Maserati exclusive. The Ghibli can be tailored with a truly exclusive interior, styled and crafted by Ermenegildo Zegna, one of Italy’s most celebrated fashion brands. The very finest leathers are combined with Zegna’s mulberry silk inserts on the seats, door panels, roof lining and ceiling light fixture. The silk is embellished with a hand-stitched micro-chevron pattern, whilst the seating features a central silk insert with a macro-chevron weave. All this is available in three different combinations of leather and silk, with contrast stitching. The hardwearing Zegna fabric not only bears the traditional pattern of a man’s suit, but also retains all the softness, lightness and texture that is innate in all the materials used by the illustrious fashion house. Just like Zegna’s impeccable clothing, the car carries a personalised Ermenegildo Zegna label that is stitched onto the driver’s sun visor to distinguish a work of masterful quality and reaffirm the exclusivity of the silk interiors, which are unique to Maserati. Technology 20 Twin Turbo technology. When looking to the past pays dividends in the present. At Maserati Powertrain, the engine developers’ mission was to produce high performance and refinement along with low fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. Their solution: turbocharging, although in keeping with Maserati tradition, on the petrol engines they decided to use not one turbocharger, but two - one for each cylinder bank. Maserati pioneered the use of two turbochargers in its 1981 Biturbo, an innovation that has only recently found favour with the rest of the automotive industry. The Maserati Ghibli comes with a choice of two petrol engines, offering performance, refinement and economy to suit all driving needs and styles. With the 350 HP 3.0 Twin Turbo V6 petrol engine, the Ghibli accelerates from 0-100 km/h 5.5 seconds, and has a top speed of 267 km/h. However, for those who seek even higher levels of power and performance, the same unit in the Ghibli S develops a mighty 410 HP and 550 Nm of torque, resulting in 0-100 km/h in 5.0 seconds and a top speed of 285 km/h. In keeping with the all-pervading sporting spirit of the brand, both petrol units are hand-assembled by Ferrari at its Maranello plant. Adding extra drama to the Ghibli’s highly distinctive engine sound is a compact, lightweight exhaust system that includes a special bypass valves. During normal driving, the valves remain closed, keeping the engine noise discreet and understated. However, when the Sport button is pressed, the bypass valves open up to release a formidable and head-turning roar. Maserati Ghibli. Technology 24 Advanced and efficient: Maserati’s 3.0 V6 turbo diesel engine. The Ghibli’s innovative 3.0 V6 turbo-diesel is an exceptional engine, featuring the very latest in diesel technology. 275 HP and 600 Nm of torque enable it to surge from 0-100 km/h in just 6.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 250 km/h, whilst its economy and emissions figures speak volumes about its efficiency, thanks in part to the Start & Stop system that shuts down the engine whenever the car stops and restarts it automatically when it is time to move off again. To ensure the fastest possible getaway, the engine starts immediately when the driver steps off the brake. The state-of-the-art Common Rail fuel injection system and “air gap technology” of the exhaust manifolds combine to minimise engine noise, vibrations and harshness, whilst a variable geometry turbocharger cuts turbo lag significantly. In addition, the turbo system benefits from a Rotary Electronic Actuator that reduces friction, thus improving boost, torque and emissions. One of the most distinguishing features of a Maserati has always been its engine note, and here the Ghibli Diesel is no different from its petrol cousins. Thanks to the Maserati Active Sound system, two sound actuators, fitted near the exhaust tailpipes, accentuate the engine’s most attractive tones and modulate them according to the way the car is being driven. When the driver presses the Sport button, the noise becomes more resonant and, in the best traditions of the marque, truly inspirational. Maserati Ghibli. Technology 28 Q4 intelligent all-wheel drive: for when the going gets tough. There are times when the weather and road conditions make that important trip seem completely impossible, which is where the Ghibli S Q4 comes into its own, providing its occupants with a luxurious environment on the inside, plus ondemand intelligent Q4 all-wheel drive to cope with more challenging conditions on the outside. The Q4 system is compact and lightweight, and continually analyses six parameters: driving style, steering angle, yaw angle, speed, wheel slip and power output. The distribution of drive torque from the 410 HP V6 is then varied accordingly. In normal conditions, Q4 sends all the engine’s torque to the rear wheels, ensuring excellent driving dynamics and optimal fuel consumption. However, if the road surface turns slippery and grip starts to be lost, in just 150 milliseconds the intelligent all-wheel drive system transfers up to 50% of the power to the front wheels for maximum traction. Q4 therefore provides the best of both worlds: a stimulating drive in normal situations, coupled with safety and peace of mind when circumstances become less favourable. The system also functions in conjunction with the MSP electronic stability control system, helping the driver to maintain the correct trajectory. This fully integrated combination improves the car’s handling when braking, with the Q4 system modulating the way the torque is shared between the front and rear axles and recognising the intervention of the ESP and ABS. The Ghibli S Q4’s performance figures are very similar to those of the two-wheel drive version, with acceleration from 0-100 Km/h in 4.8 seconds and a top speed of 284 km/h. Maserati Ghibli. Technology 32 Eight forward gears for performance and efficiency. Five driving modes to suit all driving styles. The sophisticated design of the eight-speed ZF automatic transmission ensures precise gearchanges and exceptional performance, and comfortably manages the prodigious power of the different engines. It is assisted by auto-adaptive software that is able to recognise the way the car is being driven, and modifies the shifting pattern for each individual driver. The last two gears, seventh and eighth, have been specially calibrated to reduce fuel consumption and increase comfort on long, high-speed journeys. The gearbox transmits the drive to the rear wheels by means of a dual-section, articulated driveshaft, coupled to a limited-slip mechanical differential. For maximum driver involvement, there are five operating modes, selected using the buttons near the gear lever: Auto Normal, Auto Sport, Manual Normal, Manual Sport, and Increased Control & Efficiency (I.C.E). Upshifts are all automatic unless a manual mode is selected. AUTO NORMAL MODE This pre-set mode provides smooth gearshifts at low revs to maximise ride comfort and minimise fuel consumption. When a sportier style of driving is recognised, upshifts automatically take place at higher engine speeds. AUTO SPORT MODE In this mode, the gearshifts are faster and occur at higher revs for a much more sporty driving style. MANUAL NORMAL MODE This mode allows the driver to change gear using the optional paddles behind the steering wheel or the lever on the central tunnel. The system automatically shifts up a gear as the red line approaches, and shifts down in the same way. MANUAL SPORT MODE In Manual Sport mode, the driver takes full control of the transmission: the overboost function is activated for maximum performance, gearshifts are quicker and sharper, and the engine can be pushed to the limit without the system intervening. The only automatic feature is downshifting if the revs drop too low. I.C.E. (INCREASED CONTROL & EFFICIENCY) MODE Developed not only for use in icy conditions, this mode ensures better control in all weather conditions, and the most comfortable and quietest engine response, along with minimal fuel consumption. Maserati Ghibli. Technology 34 For your comfort and pleasure: the smoothest ride and split-second responsiveness. In keeping with Maserati’s reputation for producing cars that deliver an incomparable ride, coupled with superb roadholding, the Ghibli features a highly sophisticated and responsive suspension set-up. The aluminium arms of the double-wishbone front suspension are higher up for more precise handling, whilst the five-arm multilink system at the rear provides the perfect blend of comfort and agility. Particular attention has been paid to weight reduction: a large number of suspension components are made of lightweight aluminium, and the front stabiliser bar is hollow. The Ghibli can also be equipped with the optional Skyhook suspension, with shock absorbers featuring continuous damping variation. The system uses sensors that monitor the movements of each wheel and the car’s body to determine the road conditions and how the car is being driven. It then instantly adjusts the setting of each damper accordingly. The basic setting gives priority to ride comfort, but if more dynamic handling is required, the driver just presses the suspension button on the central tunnel and the shock absorbers immediately stiffen, significantly reducing load transfer during fast cornering. In both modes, the Skyhook system stays active, and continuously adapts to the road to maximise traction. Maserati Ghibli. Safety 38 Safety measures. Maserati made safety a top priority when designing the Ghibli. To provide the best possible protection for its occupants, it features the latest generation airbags, numerous state-of-the-art safety systems, and a special front-end crumple structure that absorbs impact forces during a head-on collision. This helped achieving its 5-star safety rating by EURO NCAP and US NCAP in 2013. A STRONG AND RIGID FRAME The Ghibli’s stunning design was been made possible thanks to a brand new frame that is constructed from aluminium alloy to achieve strict weight and strength targets. A combination of aluminum and steel ensures that its weight distribution is ideally balanced, whilst special stiffening cross members deliver exceptional torsional rigidity. SEVEN AIRBAGS The Maserati Ghibli comes equipped with seven airbags. Two front airbags, both dual-stage, shield the driver and front passenger in the event of collision, whilst their torsos and hips are further protected by two side airbags located in the front seats. There are also two window airbags fitted in the roof next to the central pillar that cushion the heads of the front and rear passengers if the car is struck from the side. Finally, there’s a seventh airbag that protects the driver’s legs. BRAKES All versions of the Maserati Ghibli feature powerful Brembo® brakes that have been carefully matched with their engines’ performance. The brake discs are dual cast, which combines the strength of cast iron with the lightness of aluminium to help reduce the unsprung mass. Braking power is provided by efficient monobloc callipers, with six pistons at the front and four at the rear acting on ventilated, cross drilled discs. These callipers but also deliver extremely short stopping distances (35 metres from 100 to 0 km/h) but are highly resistant to brake fade when the car is driven hard and fast over long distances. As an option, the brake callipers can be specified in black, blue, silver or red. Maserati Ghibli. Safety 40 MASERATI STABILITY PROGRAMME The Maserati Stability Programme (MSP) is an advanced electronic stability control system that reduces torque from the engine and activates the brakes if the vehicle begins to deviate from its normal trajectory or if a skid is detected. All this happens in just a few milliseconds, and generally before the driver even realizes that it is occurring. The MSP system also combines a number of other devices including Anti Slip Regulation (ASR), which reduces wheel spin and improves traction, and Motor Spin Regulation (MSR) that prevents the wheels from locking up when changing down suddenly. An Antilock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) stop the wheels from locking and distribute the braking force between the front and rear axles. A Brake Assistance System (BAS) then recognizes emergency stops and boosts the pressure in the hydraulic circuit for the ultimate in stopping power. A Hill Holder helps the driver when starting off on an uphill slope: on a gradient, this device keeps the car braked for a short time, thus allowing the driver’s foot to move from the brake to the accelerator pedal without the car rolling backwards. TYRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM The Tyre Pressure Monitoring System continuously monitors tyre pressures by means of sensors fitted inside the wheel rims. The tyre pressure is shown on the display in the centre of the dashboard, and a warning light and audio alert inform the driver if any pressure drops below the optimal level, or in the event of a puncture. BI-XENON HEADLIGHTS AND ADAPTIVE FRONT LIGHTING SYSTEM The outstanding lighting provided by the Bi-Xenon headlights is further enhanced by the Adaptive Front Lighting System (AFS) – standard on the Ghibli S and Ghibli S Q4, and an option on Ghibli and Ghibli Diesel. This automatically adjusts the width and depth, of the headlight beams, giving maximum light and hence providing optimal safety. This is made possible by a camera mounted in the rearview mirror and sensors that monitor several different parameters, including the steering wheel position, the car’s speed, and the way it is being driven. AFS comes on automatically when driving in bad weather, on motorways, or in town. In these circumstances, the system adjusts to increase visibility and enhance safe driving. Maserati Ghibli. Safety 42 FRONT AND REAR PARKING SENSORS AND REVERSING CAMERA To assist with manoeuvring in tight spaces, the Maserati Ghibli comes equipped with parking sensors housed in the front and rear bumpers. Beeping noises increase in frequency as the obstacle approaches, whilst the TFT display in the centre of the instrument panel shows the car surrounded by symbols which light up in green, yellow or red depending on the remaining distance. In addition, there is an optional rear-view camera, fitted close to the boot lock, that shows a view of what is behind the car on the Maserati Touch Control display. Dynamic grid lines illustrate the maximum width of the vehicle and its projected path, based on the steering angle of the front wheels. FORWARD COLLISION WARNING The Forward Collision Warning, in combination with the Adaptive Cruise Control, monitors vehicles ahead by means of a camera, and warns the driver if the car’s approach could escalate into a rear-end collision. This is linked to the Advanced Brake Assist system, which provides additional braking during an emergency stop. In addition, if the warning does not prompt any action from the driver, the Automated Emergency Braking system automatically applies the brakes to reduce the car’s speed. LANE DEPARTURE WARNING SYSTEM Thanks to a camera located in the interior rear-view mirror that monitors the road markings ahead, the Lane Departure Warning System helps the driver keep the vehicle in the chosen lane on motorways and main roads. This reduces lane drift and the possibility of lateral collisions by warning the driver when the vehicle crosses lane markings without signalling. Advanced Driver Assistance Systems. SURROUND VIEW CAMERA As a parking aid and to help the driver see into blind zones, the Surround View Camera provides a clear 360° view around the car. Two lateral cameras are housed underneath the door mirrors and, in conjunction with the front and rear cameras, show what is happening on the main display screen. ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL WITH STOP & GO Adaptive Cruise Control constantly monitors the amount of space between the Ghibli and the vehicle ahead, maintaining a constant pre-set distance. With the Stop & Go function, the car will adjust to the speed of the vehicle in front until it comes to a complete stop, if the stop is less than two seconds. BLIND SPOT ALERT AND REAR CROSS PATH The Blind Spot Alert continually assesses the space between the Ghibli and other nearby vehicles. When a side or rear blind spot is encroached upon, for instance by another driver changing lanes, illuminated icons appear in the door mirrors and an audible alert is sounded. The Rear Cross Path function works in a similar way, emitting the same warning when an unseen vehicle is detected approaching from the right or the left as the car reverses out of a parking space. Maserati Ghibli. Infotainment 46 Controls for the car. Connectivity to the world. MASERATI TOUCH CONTROL PLUS In the middle of the Ghibli’s dashboard lies the new 8.4” Maserati Touch Control Plus unit (MTC Plus) that not only provides user-friendly access to the car’s many systems and devices, but also links the car and its occupants to the world of the app and the Internet. Being both simple and intuitive, with very few buttons plus a highly responsive interface unit, it has been designed so that the driver is not distracted from the road when using it, and mastering it takes no time at all. There are three ways of operating the MTC Plus: by means of the multi-touchscreen, via the new rotary control in the central console, or through voice commands. The MTC Plus system includes the car’s radio, Bluetooth ®, and satellite navigation system (where fitted), along with connections to other external sources like mobile phones, tablets, and laptop computers. Via the Aux-In, USB sockets or the SD card reader, the user can also play music or, when the car is stationary, watch films and view images on the screen. In addition, the MTC Plus controls the front seat heating, as well as the car’s ventilation, steering wheel heating, and the operation of the rear window blind, where fitted. The infotainment system is truly state-of-the-art, featuring both Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto® mirroring functions. In addition, for iPhone® users, Apple’s Siri® system acts as their personal assistant, allowing them to perform numerous tasks using voice commands. Through simple spoken phrases, it is possible to make a call or access music, messages, reminders, emails, websites and much more. Maserati Ghibli. Infotainment 48 Sound systems engineered for uncompromising performance — just like the Ghibli. The Ghibli features a powerful and carefully structured sound system as standard: two tweeters on the dashboard, a substantial woofer in each door, and two additional tweeters in the rear doors, all powered by a 280-watt head unit that delivers a clear and perfectly defined audio image to all onboard. HARMAN KARDON PREMIUM SOUND SYSTEM For music connoisseurs seeking more power, more dynamism, and a high-performance audio quality, the optional Harman Kardon Premium Sound System brings enhanced levels of audio refinement to the Maserati Ghibli. A state-of-the-art, 900-watt amplifier is the heart of the system, delivering excellent sound quality, whatever the source will be: radio, MP3 player, iPhone® or audio streaming device. Twelve independent channels are employed, providing superb levels of control within a car environment and guaranteeing a truly inspirational experience that releases all the subtle nuances of the original recording. With ten high-powered speakers carefully positioned throughout the cabin, this audio system provides passengers with sublime sound on every seat in the Ghibli. A special high-performance subwoofer handles the low-end frequencies with ease, whilst the mid-range drivers and tweeters ensure that every instrument and every artist can be appreciated to the full. Maserati Ghibli. Infotainment 50 Pure sound redefined. For those seeking the ultimate acoustics in their Maserati Ghibli, the answer is the new-generation Bowers & Wilkins Surround Sound System - the last word in sound perfection, designed by a company with 50 years’ experience in audio technology. It took expert ears and hours of listening to create the rich sound experience inside the Ghibli, together with extensive research in the field of psychoacoustics - the science of how people perceive sound. Fifteen speakers, with mid-range drivers and rear-woofers made from Kevlar®, have been strategically built into the car’s architecture, whilst a 1,280-watt amplifier ensures a totally immersive sound sensation for all on-board. The advanced aluminium tweeters capture the faintest subtleties on a track, whereas to create a rock-solid bass throughout the car, the engineers have incorporated Rohacell® into the system’s bass drivers - Rohacell® being a stiff, highly resilient material often used in the construction of rockets and aircraft. The system features QuantumLogic™ Surround Sound Technology, which digitally remodels signal streams and reconstructs the original recording of a musical piece, creating an authentic concert hall experience in the car. Along with this, the Clari-Fi function restores details lost in music that has been digitally compressed, and removes distortions caused by the compression. Whilst Maserati’s headquarters has long been based in Modena, Italy, production of the Ghibli is located at a recently opened Maserati factory in Grugliasco, just outside Turin. One billion euros were invested in renewing this plant, the ex-Bertone works, which now employs around 2,000 people and builds not only the Ghibli, but also the new Quattroporte. Although the latest technology is utilized to help with the manufacturing process, skilled technicians man each station, keeping the assembly very much a handcrafted affair. By applying proven practices developed through the company’s World Class Manufacturing (WCM) system, the plant has a strong culture dedicated to producing the highest quality vehicles. Each car is made to order and, with literally millions of combinations of mechanical and trim specifications possible, a document is signed at each station to ensure that the exact car is built to the customer’s individual requirements. At Grugliasco, passion and production go hand-in-hand, maintaining the proud traditions of a globally celebrated brand. World of Maserati 96 Something so precious deserves special protection. Testing plays a crucial part in the manufacturing process at Grugliasco, with 16 special quality control stations arranged along the line. Every single Maserati passes through these, and more than 700 checks are carried out. After completion, the Ghibli is subjected to all manner of quality control tests, looking at everything from the integrity of its weatherproofing to its handling on different road surfaces. Each car is run on a set of dynamic rollers and then taken out for an intensive 50 km road test on a wide mix of different surfaces, including mountains, motorways and city streets. Finally, senior Maserati inspectors go over the vehicle with the kid-glove treatment, and wrap it in a protective covering before it makes its way to the dealer and, ultimately, its new owner. It is this kind of care, professionalism and pride that is second to none within the industry. World of Maserati 98 The world of Maserati. Its heart races.
