Inspection / Replacement
MASERATI SAFETY RECALL BULLETIN
PERFORM THE PROCEDURE OUTLINED IN THIS TECHNICAL BULLETIN ON ALL
AFFECTED NEW VEHICLES BEFORE CUSTOMER DELIVERY OR FOR VEHICLES
ALREADY SOLD AND DELIVERED THE NEXT TIME THE VEHICLE IS IN THE SHOP FOR
MAINTENANCE OR REPAIRS.
Maserati dealers must ensure recalls are completed after having been notified by
Maserati North America, Inc. (MNA) that a safety-related defect or noncompliance exists
in any motor vehicle or item of replacement equipment in the dealer’s possession at the
time of notification. In MNA's case, this notification would typically be made by the
issuance of a recall notification in the form of a Technical Bulletin.
Under the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act of 1966, as amended, if a recall
campaign is announced by MNA, dealers must ensure that all recalls on new vehicles
and new items of replacement equipment are completed BEFORE delivery to the
consumer. This means that dealers may not legally deliver new motor vehicles or new
items of replacement equipment to consumers with an open recall.
The Safety Act also prohibits dealers from selling or leasing the motor vehicle or item of
replacement equipment, unless and until the open recall has been completed BEFORE
delivery. This also pertains to vehicles in the Certified Pre-Owned program, and to items
of replacement equipment.
Finally, MNA dealers should not sell or use parts that have been recalled by MNA. Please
follow the specific instructions provided by MNA on the return or disposition of any
parts.

Description of Vehicle Safety Recall 342
Maserati S.p.A. and MNA have determined that the above described vehicles may have been
manufactured with an incorrect seat wiring harness layout, which can cause the seat wiring
harness to rub against metal points on the seat/seat frame assembly. Through normal seat
adjustment operation, and over time, this can lead to an inoperative seat adjustment system,
and in rare cases, a potential risk of fire due to an electrical short to ground between the seat
wiring harness and the seat adjustment motor assembly.
Which Vehicles Are Affected
Please refer to VIN list in ModisCS+ for the affected vehicles in the U.S. and Canada
Vehicle Remedy Information
1. Check that the vehicle is included in this Recall campaign, and that this repair
has not been previously performed.
2. Inspect the Driver Front Seat Wiring Harness for proper routing and
protection, and if necessary, replace the Driver Front Seat Wiring Harness.
3. The recall procedure is now complete.
This repair procedure will be performed free of charge to the customer.

Procedure “A” – Installation of Fuses
NOTE: Check the “PN Look-up Maserati Recall 342” file to see if the vehicle being
worked on requires the fuses.
1. With the battery disconnected, remove the 2 circuit breakers (F31 and F38)
located in the rear distribution unit (RDU) and install the 2 25A fuses. ( Fig.5.)
Fig.5
Procedure “B” – Inspecting / Taping of the Motors and
Routing of the harness
1. With the L/F front seat on the bench, inspect the routing of the wiring harness to
determine if it comes in contact with any of the adjustment motors. (Fig.6)
Fig.6
If the harness was not in contact with the motors, proceed to Step 3,
“Taping the motors and routing the harness.”
2. If the harness is in contact with the motors (Fig.6), or there are any marks on the
harness from contact with the motors (Fig.7), gently bend the harness by hand at
the contact point and inspect for any visible signs of copper wiring. (Fig.8)

NOTE: If the harness is damaged (e.g. copper visible, insulation rubbed
through, etc.) the harness must be replaced. Open a BOL and attach
pictures of the harness showing the anomaly, then go to
Procedure “C” Replacing the Driver Seat Harness.
3. Taping the motors and routing the harness
Fig.9
If the vehicle is equipped with the REAR SEAT ENTERTAINMENT system,
the minimum number of tape turns must be 3.
If the vehicle is not equipped with RSE, the minimum number of tape turns
must be 2.
If necessary, apply the tape to the motors (Fig.9) to meet the above
number of turns by following the procedures below.

5
Apply the tape as follows:
Apply the tape so that a minimum width of 5mm’s (Fig.10) covers the edge
of the motor housing as shown in Fig.11.

Fig.11
Check the wiring harness routing on the seat. Install the 4 wire ties to the
locations circled in Fig.12 to ensure the harness is away from the motor edges.
