The result is a riveting new look that also honours Cadillac’s avant-garde design tradition. Complementing the dramatic overall shape are a host of brilliantly executed details, like the functional air extractors on the front fenders and the distinctive LED tail lights. A wide track and flared fenders speak of the new CTS’s increased performance capabilities, while the body’s tight panel gaps and invisible roof joints – the product of advanced laser brazing technology – are visible demonstrations of CTS’s world-class quality. Their answer: make it larger – nearly 70 percent of the area of the roof – so it brightens the cabin for both front and rear passengers. The available UltraView sunroof they designed is one of the largest offered in any sedan. It also features a power-retracting interior sunshade for those occasions when a softer light is desirable. Among its traditional elements are supple leather seating surfaces and door, console and instrument panel trim that’s cut, wrapped and hand-sewn by master craftsmen. Then there are the interior’s many standard leading-edge amenities, including memory functions for the driver’s seat and exterior mirrors, along with ten-way power adjustable front bucket seats which employ an advanced design that simultaneously maximizes occupant comfort and interior space. Case in point: the ambient lighting system included with the available Sight and Sound Package. It includes clean, white LED spot lights and fibre-optic light pipes strategically positioned throughout the interior. The result is soft backlighting of areas like the footwells, door pulls and instrument panel, for a premium look reminiscent of the recessed indirect lighting found in modern luxury homes. AMENITIES 17 POWER THAT NEVER TAKES A BACK SEAT PERFORMANCE With a highly refined DOHC V6 engine generating 263 horsepower, the 2008 CTS puts more standard power at your disposal than the BMW 3-Series and 5-Series, the Mercedes C-Class and E-Class and the Audi A4 and A6.* Yet for CTS, that’s just the beginning. There’s also an available 304 horsepower V6 that features Cadillac’s first-ever use of direct fuel injection, a leading-edge technology that enhances power, fuel efficiency and emissions performance simultaneously. Both of these sophisticated engines are paired with your choice of a standard six-speed manual or an available six-speed automatic transmission with Driver Shift Control. *Based on 2008 Model Year data and the latest published competitive information available at time of printing. Excludes other GM vehicles. For outstanding engine protection even in severe conditions, both CTS engines are factory-filled with Mobil1® featuring SuperSyn TechnologyTM. The 2008 CTS’s agile handling and excellent performance were inspired in part by Cadillac’s successful CTS-V race car. The 304 hp direct injection V6 features such a high compression ratio – 11.4:1 – that the pistons are dimpled to ensure adequate valve clearance. In addition to Driver Shift Control, CTS’s precision-engineered 6-speed automatic transmission includes such advanced features as grade braking and Performance Algorithm Shifting, which automatically adjusts shift patterns whenever it detects that spirited driving is underway. Standard on both CTS engines Variable Valve Timing (VVT) adjusts valve opening and closing times as engine speeds change, helping to optimize efficiency. 18 POWERTRAIN POWERTRAIN 19 IT CAN HANDLE IT BALANCE Prototype versions of the new CTS were exhaustively tested at Germany’s legendary Nürburgring and on public roads in North America and China. The 2008 CTS offers a choice of 3 suspension tuning levels: – The standard suspension offers a comfortable ride and agile handling. – The FE2 Sport Suspension emphasizes handling responsiveness. – The FE3 Performance Handling Suspension offers the ultimate in agility and body control. Responsiveness. Steering feel. Body control. High-speed stability. These are the things that great handling is made of. How do you achieve them? First, engineer a solid body structure. Then select premium chassis components, like a short/long arm front suspension, a multi-link rear suspension, StabiliTrakTM and Michelin Pilot and Pilot Sport tires. Then the real work begins, testing and tuning and retesting and retuning on roads and racetracks around the world. If your engineers are extremely skilful – as the Cadillac team assuredly is – the result is a car that meets the highest driving standards in the world. A car, in fact, like the new CTS. When you drive it, you get it. 20 SUSPENSION SUSPENSION 21 When traction is compromised, CTS’s AWD transfer case adjusts torque distribution within a fraction of a second to help make the most of the available power. DIVIDE AND CONQUER AWD 22 ALL-WHEEL DRIVE With most cars, engine power is sent to just two wheels. Unless you happen to lose traction, that is, in which case all the power goes to just a single wheel – the one without any grip. The 2008 CTS offers a better solution. With the available All-Wheel-Drive (AWD) system – the first ever on a CTS – engine torque is divided 25/75 between the front and rear wheels under normal driving conditions. And when grip is in short supply, CTS’s AWD alters the division of power as necessary to send the most torque to the wheels with the best traction. The result is a feeling akin to riding on rails. Winter will never know what hit it. ALL-WHEEL DRIVE 23 ENGINEERED FOR EVASIVE ACTION AVOIDANCE ABOVE: Equipped with an intercooled supercharger forcing air into the cylinders under 12 psi of pressure, STS-V’’s hand-built engine generates an awe-inspiring 469 horsepower and 439 pounds-feet of torque. WITH STABILITRAK WITHOUT STABILITRAK BELOW: A key element in STS-V ’s excellent performance is Cadillac’s 6-speed automatic transmission. In Sport mode, its Driver Shift Control feature allows clutchless manual shifting through all 6 gears. StabiliTrak constantly monitors for lateral skids, then adjusts individual brake pressure automatically, to help restore steering control. BELOW: The STS-V chassis is completely revised for razor-sharp handling. Key elements include a ZF performance steering gear, Sachs monotube shocks, higher-rate springs, larger stabilizer bars and a high-capacity steering cooler. Because there’s no such thing as a good collision, the new CTS has been carefully designed to help you keep out of harm’s way. Great visibility and ergonomically positioned controls are part of the story, as are responsive handling and the stopping power of four-wheel disc brakes with ABS. Every CTS also comes with a StabiliTrak electronic stability control system that can help correct most lateral skids before you even know they’ve started. There’s even a standard tire pressure monitoring system that can alert you via the Driver Information Centre if one of your tires is low on air. The available adaptive lighting system helps you see around corners by steering the headlights in the direction you turn the wheel. 24 24 SAFETY SAFETY SAFETY 25 CADILLAC OWNER PRIVILEGES By choosing to drive a new 2008 CTS, you automatically enter a world of elite owner privileges, thanks to a host of programs that will enhance your safety and convenience and reduce your overall cost of ownership. For the first 4 years or 80,000 km of ownership*, Cadillac No-Charge Scheduled Maintenance will cover all regularly scheduled maintenance required by your CTS. During the same period, the Cadillac Limited Warranty will cover all parts and labour costs* that may be incurred to correct defects in material or workmanship. You are also covered by GM’s Powertrain Limited Warranty, which is in effect for the first 5 years or 160,000 km of ownership.** While the Powertrain Limited Warranty is in effect, you enjoy the support of Cadillac Roadside Service* throughout Canada and the United States should you require towing, fuel delivery, a jump start or help with a flat tire or lock-out situation. In addition, Alternative Transportation* provides you with shuttle transportation for daily service and an alternate car (or reimbursement for rental or other transportation expenses) for overnight service, whenever your CTS requires scheduled maintenance or repairs covered under the Cadillac Limited Warranty. VIGILANCE THAT NEVER QUITS PROTECTION In the event of a collision, as in every other situation, the 2008 CTS is designed to perform to the highest standards. Front and rear crush zones, safety cage construction and a strategic use of high-strength steel in the body structure all help to keep dangerous energy away from the passenger compartment. CTS also features six standard air bags, along with front-seat safety belt pre-tensioners that pull the belts snug the instant a crash is detected, for improved protection. Your CTS will even continue looking after you when the collision is over.
