Summary of Content
2 0 0 8 L ACROSSE On the road to mapping out the course of our future, we rediscovered something: the very essence of who we are. It’s an idea every great Buick® of the past has stood for, and the touchstone every Buick from this day forward must attain. It is called the romantic art of the automobile. It’s what sculpture looks like when it’s set in motion. How elegance feels when it’s meticulously crafted. The way the arc of a hood or the flare of a fender can be positively sensuous. And how sanctuary can be found with the simple act of shutting a door. The romantic art of the automobile is a belief that transportation should truly transport you. Every curve of chrome, every yard of leather, every stunning technological innovation, all working in concert to give the people who matter most the things that matter most. Like the confidence of uncommon power and control. The reassuring feeling of comfort and safety. And the visceral allure of an enticing machine. Every Buick we build will share this essence, and be built on this belief. Join us on our journey as we bring romance back to the road. After all, life should be a beautiful ride. And you deserve a car worthy of the trip. Drive Beautiful. Welcome to the 2008 Buick LaCrosse.® DRIVE B EAUT I F U L Shown with available equipment. S C U L P T E D L I N ES ° N E W WAT E R FA L L G R I L L E ° C H RO M E ACC E N T S ° AVA I L A B L E 17" C H R O M E W H E E L S In a world filled with me too mid-size sedans, there's one beautiful exception. The carefully crafted Buick LaCrosse. From the out set, it was designed to look and feel unlike anything else in it s class. Bright chrome flashes from it s massive new waterfall grille. It s sheet metal is sculpted with contemporary flair. QuietTuning brings peace to an interior that is a study in understated sophistication. Premium amenities that come at extra cost on many mid-size cars are standard equipment. Even the power and handling are impressively refined. And now there's an exciting new version of LaCrosse with an even higher level of luxury and performance: the new LaCrosse Super. Exceptional beaut y, comfort and confidence on the road. That 's what makes the mid-size LaCrosse an exceptionally rewarding car to drive. T RANQU I L Before the rst designer's sketch ever appeared on paper, the LaCrosse development team was xated on one thing: this mid-size car would have to be one of the quietest Buicks ever. Using precision acoustic instruments, they set out to accomplish their mission, and developed a customized version of the Buick-pioneered process called QuietTuning. It employs 22 different technologies and tactics in service of one or more of the following t hree st rateg ies: 1. Red uce noise at it s source. The most elegant way to quiet the interior of a car is to nd the source of the noise and make it stop. Or at least red uce the volume of noise being prod uced. O ur LaCrosse acoustic specialist s found many ways to reduce noise at it s source. Among the most interesting was the use of a Helmholt z resonator on the exhaust of the available 3.6L engine. It alters the acoustic pat tern of the exhaust to make it both quieter and more pleasant sounding without inhibiting the 1. engine's high-performance personalit y. And, during the 300-plus hours LaCrosse spent in wind tunnel testing, they analyzed noise caused by the aerodynamic details of the body and made small design modi cations to signi cantly reduce that noise. 2. Block t he noise p at h. Some noise can't be eliminated at it s source, 2. b ut much of it can b e kept from find ing it s way into t he cabin. So, in addition to it s many acoustic sealers, barriers and shields, LaCrosse also has a special laminated steel panel behind it s instrument panel. This panel doesn't resonate, so it won't produce noise of it s own. It also creates a very effective acoustic shield to help block out noise from under the hood. The acoustic laminate windshield and the laminated front sidedoor glass have a similar effect. They keep much of the noise of the out side world on the out side of the car. Even the side-view mirrors get extra at tention. A special sound barrier is installed at the point where the mirror housing is at tached to the door, blocking yet another noise path. 3. 3. Ab sorb noise in t he cab in. Something special is waiting for the noise that still nds it s way into the passenger compartment of LaCrosse: think of it as an armada of acoustic absorbers. They're positioned in just the right places, so nearly all the noise is absorbed before it ever reaches the ears of the passeng ers. The amazing result is a car that 's astonishingly quiet. It is truly a hushed sanctuary from the out side world. LaCrosse is surely one of the quietest Buicks on the road. Shown with available equipment. Developing 200 horsepower and 230 lb-ft torque, the 3800 has everything it takes to move LaCrosse smartly down the road. Recent enhancement s have made it even smoother and quieter-running. Sp or t -Tuned Susp ension. This standard LaCrosse CXS suspension is impressively rm and controlled to match the model's high performance characteristics. The MacPherson strut coil-over-spring independent front and trailing arm rear design use gas-charged dampers with four-stage valving for p recise cont rol. 32-mm front and 19.4-mm rear t ub ular stabilizer bars help control body roll. The Sport-Tuned suspension was calib rated to work in harmony wit h t he 240-hp 3.6L VVT V6 t hat 's st and ard on LaCrosse CXS. St abiliTrak. This available stabilit y control system has the uncanny abilit y to sense the direction in which the driver is steering, and the power to help the driver keep LaCrosse on course in demanding or adverse conditions like wet, snow-covered or icy roads. It can aid the driver when sudden evasive maneuvers are required by traf c conditions. And it all happens so subtly, the driver may never sense it 's occurring. ABS/ Tract ion Cont rol. ABS helps you maintain stopping and steering control in emergency situations by automatically modulating the brakes when the wheel-speed sensors detect lockup. Those same wheel-speed sensors are used to detect wheel slippage for LaCrosse's traction control system. When the drive wheel is found to be spinning much faster than the other wheels, a series of interventions is initiated to automatically reduce power and help control wheelspin. LaCrosse CXS has a traction control system that not only uses engine intervention but brake management automatically applying the brakes at one or more of the four wheels, as required for additional wheel slippage control. An Import ant Not e About Alt erat ions and Warrant ies. Installations or alterations to the original equipment vehicle (or chassis) as distributed by General Motors are not covered by the General Motors New Vehicle Limited Warranty. The special body company, assembler, equipment installer or upfitter is solely responsible for warranties on the body or equipment and any alterations (or any effect of the alterations) to any of the parts, components, systems or assemblies installed by GM. General Motors is not responsible for the safety or quality of design features, materials or workmanship of any alterations by such suppliers. Assembly. Buick vehicles and their components are assembled or produced by different operating units of General Motors, its subsidiaries or suppliers to GM worldwide. We sometimes find it necessary to produce Buick vehicles with different or differently sourced components than originally scheduled. Since some options may be unavailable when your vehicle is assembled, we suggest that you verify that your vehicle includes the equipment you ordered or, if there are changes, that they are acceptable to you. Engines. Buick products are equipped with engines produced by GM Powertrain or other suppliers to GM worldwide. The engines in Buick products may also be used in other GM makes and models. A Not e About Child Safet y. Always use safety belts and the correct child restraints for your child's age and size. Even in vehicles equipped with Passenger Sensing System, children are safer when properly secured in a rear seat in an appropriate infant, child or booster seat. Never place a rear-facing infant restraint in the front seat of any vehicle equipped with an active frontal air bag. See the vehicle Owner's Manual and child safety seat instructions for more safety information. GM Prot ect ion Plan is the only vehicle service contract endorsed by General Motors. The GM Protection Plan offers mechanical coverage for the parts and labor costs of repairing covered vehicle components against failure even if it results from wear and tear (except in Kentucky). Depending on the level of coverage, additional benefits may include Roadside Assistance, alternate transportation or towing. The GM Protection Plan also offers basic maintenance coverage for specific maintenance needs.
