BRAKE ENERGY REGENERATION AERODYNAMICS Brake Energy Regeneration uses the energy that is created when the driver eases off the accelerator or brakes. Thus, the alternator is used efficiently, and kinetic energy that so far went unused can now be turned into electric energy to charge the battery. Fuel consumption is reduced and performance increases. Every BMW boasts an excellent drag coefficient, thanks to aerodynamic optimisations that complement each other perfectly. INTELLIGENT START/STOP FUNCTION The Automatic Start/Stop function switches off the engine when the vehicle comes to a temporary standstill (e.g. at traffic lights or in a traffic jam), which can reduce overall fuel consumption. When the driver presses down on the clutch (manual) or takes their foot off the brake (automatic), the engine automatically starts up again in a fraction of a second. YEARS. Focused on the future – from the very beginning. By the 1990s, BMW had already made headway in connected mobility. Another milestone of the digital future was surpassed in 2004 with vehicles with built-in SIM cards. Then came the first online functionality, Google Services and innovative display systems such as the BMW Head-Up Display. Throughout this process, the desires of the customer have always taken centre stage. In a first for a premium automobile manufacturer, BMW makes it possible to book and pay for services flexibly via the BMW ConnectedDrive Store, in the vehicle or on a computer at home. And with the introduction of BMW Connected and the Open Mobility Cloud, BMW is taking the next steps into the future of mobility. IN TOUCH Park Assist1, 2 makes parking simple. The system works by measuring potential parking spaces while driving past at a low speed. When a suitable space has been found, the Park Assist takes over the steering, while the driver is responsible for selecting the correct gear, as well as pressing the accelerator and brakes. 24/7 WITH BMW CONNECTED. DRIVING ASSISTANT. What would it be like if you were never late again? What if your BMW already knew your preferred destinations? How would you like reliable navigation, whether you‘re sitting in your vehicle or not? BMW Connected provides you with the information you want, when and where you want it. BMW Connected is a personal mobility assistant which facilitates your everyday mobility and aids you in reaching your destinations relaxed and on time. With the BMW Connected app, mobility-relevant information such as recommendations for optimal departure times are available at any time via smartphone or smartwatch and can be seamlessly transmitted to the car. MORE THAN Driving Assistant1, 3, 4 combines the Lane Departure Warning and approach control warning systems. When travelling at speeds up to 35mph, the approach control and person warning with light city braking function issues a warning if there is a risk of collision with vehicles or pedestrians, and brakes the vehicle in the event of an emergency. At speeds above approximately 45mph, the Lane Departure Warning draws the driver‘s attention to an unintentional lane change by means of slight vibrations of the steering wheel. 20 SURROUND VIEW. SERVICES IN THE BMW CONNECTED DRIVE STORE. ConnectedDrive Services forms the basis for intelligent BMW ConnectedDrive functions, as well as for the integration of selected smartphone apps. This equipment also provides access to the BMW ConnectedDrive Store, in which services and apps can be ordered or extended any time and anywhere to suit the user’s individual requirements – for example with Concierge Service or Online Entertainment, which can turn every drive into a convenient and entertaining experience. Surround-view1, 2, 4 includes the camera-based functions Top-view and Side-view. Cameras in the exterior mirrors and a rear-view camera allow a 270° view to be shown on the Control Display, as well as an overhead view. Side-view makes it easier to approach intersections and side roads with difficult visibility. Available as optional equipment. Only available with and included in Park Assist package. Innovation and Technology  Standard equipment The Variable Sport steering with Servotronic creates a direct and agile steering response and ensures less physical effort is required to turn the wheel. It reacts to the angle of the steering wheel with varying steering ratios. This improves handling when driving more dynamically and reduces the effort needed to steer when parking and turning. SPORT+ mode is a further feature of this option.1 BMW Emergency Call reacts automatically if an accident occurs and gets help for you and your passengers. It contacts specially trained BMW Call centre agents who offer support to you and your passengers until the emergency services arrive. The first responders also receive important information directly. Drive Performance Control lets the driver choose between the standard Comfort mode, the more efficient ECO PRO mode and Sport and Sport+ modes for an even more dynamic drive. ECO PRO mode adjusts the characteristics of automatic transmission and heating/air conditioning settings to make the drive as fuel efficient as possible.2 22 | 23  Optional equipment  Dynamic Stability Control+ (DSC+) stabilises the vehicle as soon as any skidding motion is detected. Its extended functionality includes Cornering Brake Control (CBC), Hill-start and Brake Assist, brake drying and braking readiness. For even more athletic driving, the Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) function allows increased wheel slip.  BMW Emergency Call reacts automatically if an accident occurs and gets help for you and your passengers. The first responders also receive important information directly.  From the daytime running lights to low and high beams, all of the functions in the LED Headlights have a longer lifespan and save more energy thanks to LED technology. The dynamic headlights feature automatic light range regulation, increased visibility at night and in bad weather thanks to excellent illumination with a light colour similar to daylight.  Tyre pressure monitoring with a three-level warning strategy reads the tyre pressure at all times and automatically warns the driver of any loss of pressure. The system detects the air pressure of each tyre via a sensor and transmits the values wirelessly to a control unit. So Tyre pressure monitoring is capable of displaying both slow and rapid loss of air pressure.  The Airbags for driver and front passenger, as well as the side airbags integrated into the front seat backrests, are integral elements of the well-interconnected safety components of each BMW and offer targeted protection in case of an accident.  The roll-over protection system in the rear headrests ensures optimum head protection should the car roll over – guaranteeing a higher degree of safety.3 The intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel drive system smoothly and variably distributes drive power to the front and rear wheels for maximum traction, driving dynamics and safety in every driving situation. For even better agility, the electronically controlled power distribution counterbalances over and under-steering on bends.1 The Adaptive M Sport suspension can be electronically adjusted at any time to suit the road and driving conditions. The driver can also adjust the suspension characteristics via the Drive Performance Control to enable their preferred driving style at the time – from comfortable to extremely athletic with markedly agile handling.1 1 2 Available as optional equipment. The key, which can be carried in a trouser pocket or handbag, for example, is automatically recognised as soon as it is in close proximity to the car. It includes handle-area lighting in the outside door handles, front and rear. Comfort Go, keyless starting of the engine, is included as standard. In combination with the Exterior windows (folding and automatically dimming) option, the exterior windows can be folded by holding the lock button on the remote key after or whilst locking the vehicle. Convenient opening and closing of the sunroof can be operated via remote key and one-touch function. Exclusively available for Coupé and Gran Coupé models as part of Premium package.  The Rain sensor with automatic headlight activation automatically switches on the windscreen wipers when required and adjusts the wiper frequency to the rainfall intensity. When the light conditions require, the integrated automatic headlight activation activates the low-beam headlight.  The exterior trim in Satin Aluminium emphasises the vehicle‘s distinctive nature. It includes a range of exterior features such as side window surrounds, window recess finishers as well Air Breather trim elements in Satin Aluminium. In appealing contrast to this, the mirror bases, mirror triangles and window guides as well as the trims on the B and C pillars are all finished in a stylish matt Black. Exclusively available for Sport models.  The M Sport braking system has four-piston fixed calipers at the front and two-piston floating calipers at the rear in Blue with M designation and features large brake discs to ensure an outstanding braking performance. Only available as part of M Sport Plus package.  The smoked rear lights with LED technology consist of individual highperformance LED lighting elements and have the characteristic, typical BMW L-shape ensuring that the vehicle is clearly recognisable as a BMW, even in the dark.  The wind deflector provides the driver and front passenger with effective protection from draughts at neck and shoulder-height, even when travelling at high speeds. When it is not needed, the collapsible sides can simply be folded together for easy and compact storage.
