The results of this system are truly revolutionary: with the MultiAir system it is also possible to open the same valves twice during the same cycle, surpassing the structural limits of the mechanical camshafts. Different strategies can be employed to optimise the combustion efficiency, according to the driving situation. The second generation of MultiJet engines, a development of the Common Rail system, having made its debut on the MiTo. Service internals of 21,000 miles demonstrate the reliability of this class-leading technology. The 1.3 JTDM-2 85 bhp and 1.6 JTDM-2 120 bhp engines use special injectors which, courtesy of a balanced hydraulic servo valve, control the amount of diesel injected into the combustion chamber with a high degree of PRECISION. The result is a more RAPID and FLEXIBLE injection sequence compared to previous generation power units ECO SOLU T IONS The MiTo also has another device on board for reducing fuel consumption and emissions, available on all engines: START&STOP AS STANDARD; a device that turns off the engine whenever the vehicle is stationary and idling, then re-starts it automatically. This system can be deactivated at will by the driver, but when active achieves a noticeable reduction in fuel consumption, emissions and noise pollution. GEAR SHIFT INDICATOR – GSI: works in conjunction with Start&Stop and suggests when to shift to the gear best suited to optimise engine efficiency and reduce fuel consumption by illuminating a light on the control panel. 18 - 19 A simple step: just shift the selector near the gear lever.
