STOP! To maintain any warranty provision otherwise entitled to you and to ensure correct
operation and reliability, calibrations loaded via an mTune handset must be installed together with
the correct mountune hardware. Installation must be carried out at a Ford Dealer or mountune USA
to ensure vehicle warranty coverage- See warranty document for details.
Product Introduction
Congratulations on the purchase of the mTune hand held device. The mTune is an OEM ECU
flashing and engine-monitoring device that will flash the ECU with an engine calibration map.
mountune maps were developed to specifically to work in concert with the mountune hardware from
the Ford Focus ST MP275 and the mountune Ford Fiesta ST MP215 Upgrade Packages. By flashing
the ECU with the mountune map, this will ensure the engine performs as intended and maintain its 50
state legal emissions status. The mTune can:
•
Reprogram the factory engine control unit (ECU) with a mountune map through the on-board
diagnostic (OBD-II) port
•
Monitor and log vehicle sensor data using on-screen digital gauges
•
Read and clear engine diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)
•
Measure 0-60mph, ¼ mile times, and generate a dyno plot
•
Estimate instantaneous fuel economy

operation and reliability, calibrations loaded via an mTune handset must be installed
together with the correct mountune hardware. Installation must be carried out at a Ford

IMPORTANT!
For installation purposes, it is important to ensure that the vehicle's battery has adequate
power for both the mTune and the ECU. Because of this, it is recommended that all in-car
electronics and vehicle lights are turned off during the installation process to reduce drain
on the vehicle's battery. For improved safety during installation, a car battery charger can
be connected to the vehicle during the installation and ECU flashing process.
Getting Started
1. You will need the mTune and OBD-II cable to perform the installation. Make sure the key fob
is present inside the cabin.
2. Locate the vehicle's OBD-II port. Location of the OBD-II port may vary depending on the
vehicle model. Some models are equipped with a covered OBD-II port (Image 1). While other
models have the OBD-II port located just under the plastic trim behind the hood release lever
(Image 2).

3. Plug the OBD-II cable into the OBD-II port under the dash of vehicle. Then connect the small
end of the OBD-II cable to the port on the bottom of the mTune.
4. Connect the small end of the OBD-II cable to the port on the bottom of the mTune.
5. Make sure the clasp on the OBD-II cable firmly engages with the port.
6. Next, press the ENGINE START/STOP button once to turn on the ignition. The engine should
not be running during this installation process.
7. Select “Install” on the mTune to proceed with installation.

WARNING!
Do not disturb the mTune, OBD-II cable, or open vehicle doors while installation is taking
place. Failure to do so may result in incomplete ECU reprogramming which may render the
vehicle inoperable.
mTune Buttons:
Vehicle Identification
The mTune will attempt to automatically determine the target vehicle for installation.
If the mTune successfully identifies the vehicle:
Verify that the identified vehicle is correct and press OK to confirm.
If an error occurs
Please reference the Troubleshooting section of the mTune User Manual for additional information. Please visit the mountune
website to download the User Manual.
ECU Map Selection:
After the mTune identifies the vehicle, it will present a map for that vehicle. This map will become the base map for the vehicle.
Ensure that all of the mountune components have been properly installed on the vehicle before flashing the map into the ECU.
After confirming that the mountune components have been properly installed on the vehicle, press OK again to proceed.
Install mTune ECU Programming:
The mTune will proceed with installation to the vehicle. At this point the mTune reprograms the vehicle’s ECU with the new
mountune program data and calibration parameters from the map file. This process will take several minutes to complete. Note
that during installation, the in-dash display will go blank and the HVAC controls will reset. After installation if the vehicle is
equipped with a MFT/SYNC system, a message will appear that it is performing maintenance. This is normal behavior.
Installation Complete:
The last installation process the mTune goes through is clearing trouble codes. When this step is complete, turn off the ignition
and wait for approximately ten seconds. After this last process is done, your screen should now display “Installation Complete”.
You may now unplug the mTune from the vehicle. The mTune does not need to be plugged in to the vehicle again unless it is to
be used for performance testing, live data monitoring, or data logging features. Please note that the mTune is designed to work
with only one vehicle. Once the mTune is installed, it cannot be used with another vehicle.
