Important information on installing the CD changer in the E39/2 Only for use in the BMW dealer organisation. The CD changer may only be installed by a specialist workshop that has the required special tools and manuals (servicing, repair, diagnostics, etc.). All the work is shown for the left-hand side of the car and must be repeated on the righthand side. In cars with an on-board monitor radio the control cable is only installed in the boot.  In cars with a BMW Professional hi-fi system DSP amplifier only the coaxial cable for the Professional hi-fi system DSP amplifier/CD change must be installed in the boot.  Ensure that the cables/lines are not kinked or damaged as you install them in the car. Additional cables/leads that you install must be secured with cable ties.If the specified PIN chambers are occupied, bridges, double crimps or twin-lead terminals must be used. When installing the power supply wiring harness A start with branches A1 and A2 . To install the CD changer (cars without an on-board monitor, without a DSP amplifier and with Professional radio SA663 up to production date 02/01 only) 0 The installation of the power supply cable A for the CD change is only necessary, if the black 3-pin socket casing X18180 on the power supply for the CD changer is not tied back on the audio wiring harness. A X18180 F 39 1015 B 0 A1 30 X13016 Disconnect the black 12-pin plug connector X322 (30). Connect branch A2, white/grey/yellow cable on the power supply cable A, to slot PIN4. Press the contact socket out of plug connector X322 (30) and connect the twin-lead terminal to the 1-pin black socket casing (17). Screw the cable eyelet A1 to earth post X13016 under the left tail light. Lay the power supply cable A parallel to the standard wiring harness to the installation site of the CD changer. F 39 1016 B 0 A X325 30 oo o o oo ooooo oo Disconnect plug connector X325. Connect branch A3, red/green cable on the power supply cable A, to slot PIN1. To do this press the contact socket out of plug connector X325 and connect the twin-lead terminal to the 1-pin black socket casing (17). o ooo oo oo ooo o Lay branch A3, black 1-pin plug casing, along the wiring harness (30) on the boot floor from left to right to the tied back black 1-pin plug connector X325 and secure it. o oo ooo oooooo oo o F 39 1017 B 0 The installation of the control cable B for the CD changer is only required, if the black 6-pin socket casing X18729 on the control cable for the CD changer is not tied back on the audio wiring harness. To install the CD changer (cars without an on-board monitor, without a DSP amplifier and with Professional radio SA663 up to production date 02/01 only) 0 30 31 32 33 35 Thread the control cable B from the radio (30) on the left under the centre console (31) between the gearbox tunnel (32) and carpet along the floor panel cross traverse (33). Lay the control cable B along the standard wiring harness near the sill (34) to the installation site of the CD changer (35) in the boot on the left. Secure the control cable B with cable ties. E B 34 F 39 1020 B 0 X18126 19 B1 B 30 Connect branch B1, silver 12-pin socket casing on the control cable B to the black 17-pin socket casing X18126 on the radio connection plug and secure it with a retaining clip (19). Connect socket casing X18126 to the radio (30). 039 0003 B 0 The figure shows the boot at the rear left. To install the CD changer (cars without an on-board monitor, without a DSP amplifier and with Professional radio SA663 up to production date 02/01 only) 0 30 V V H H Remove the three transport guard screws (30) from the CD changer (1) and seal the apertures with the adhesive discs supplied (adhesive discs are supplied with the CD changer). Remove the two covers (31) and set the adjustment mechanism (32) with a straight slot screwdriver to V (vertical installation) and then reaffix both covers (31). 1 31 31 32 F 39 1024 B 0 A4/X18180 30 31 A Connect branch A4, black 3-pin socket casing on the power supply cable A or the standard power supply plug X18180 to the plug casing on the power supply connector (30) on the CD changer (1). Connect branch B2, black 6-pin socket casing on the control cable B or the standard plug X18729 to the plug casing (31) on the CD changer (1). 1 B B2/X18729 F 39 1025 B 0 12 12 18 1 30 8 9 Insert the CD changer (1) into the holder (9) and secure it with the four fillister head Philips screws (12). Secure the connection cable for the CD changer (1) with the holder (16) to the hole (31) from the inside. To install the CD changer (cars without an on-board monitor, without a DSP amplifier and with Professional radio SA663 after production date 03/01 only) 0 B1 B1 E2 E2 2 B1 E2 F 39 1019 B Push the shrink hose (2) over branch E2, silver 10-pin plug casing on adapter cable E, and connect branch B1, silver 10-pin socket casing on control cable B to it. As you connect B1 to E2 ensure that it is correctly positioned, see figure. All sharp metal and plastic detents are to be removed from plug connection B1 and E2 using an angle cutter. There must be no sharp edges or corners on plug connection B1 and E2. Push the shrink hose (2) over the plug connection B1 and E2 and shrink it using a hot air blower. To install the CD changer (cars without an on-board monitor, without a DSP amplifier and with Professional radio SA663 after production date 03/01 only) 0 30 31 32 33 35 Thread the adapter cable E and the control cable B from the radio (30) on the left under the centre console (31) between the gearbox tunnel (32) and carpet along the floor panel cross traverse (33). Secure the connection cable for the CD changer (1) with the holder (16) to the hole (31) from the inside. A X18180 F 39 1027 B 0 A1 30 X13016 Disconnect the black 12-pin plug connector X322 (30). Connect branch A2, white/grey/yellow cable on the power supply cable A, to slot PIN4. Press the contact socket out of plug connector X322 (30) and connect the twin-lead terminal to the 1-pin black socket casing (17). Screw the cable eyelet A1 to earth post X13016 under the left tail light. Lay the power supply cable A parallel to the standard wiring harness to the installation site of the CD changer. F 39 1028 B 0 A X325 30 oo o o oo ooooo oo o ooo oo oo ooo o Lay branch A3, black 1-pin plug casing, along the wiring harness (30) on the boot floor from left to right to the tied back black 1-pin plug connector X325 and secure it. Disconnect plug connector X325. Connect branch A3, red/green cable on the power supply cable A, to slot PIN1. To do this press the contact socket out of plug connector X325 and connect the twin-lead terminal to the 1-pin black socket casing (17). o oo ooo oooooo oo o F 39 1029 B 0 C The installation of the control cable C for the CD changer is only required, if the black 6-pin socket casing X18729 on the control cable for the CD changer is not tied back on the audio wiring harness. To install the CD changer (cars with an on-board monitor and without a DSP amplifier only) 0 C1 C1 E2 E2 2 C1 E2 F 39 1031 B Push the shrink hose (2) over branch E2, silver 10-pin plug casing on adapter cable E, and connect branch C1, silver 10-pin socket casing on control cable C to it. As you connect C1 to E2 ensure that it is correctly positioned, see figure. All sharp metal and plastic detents are to be removed from plug connection C1 and E2 using an angle cutter. Connect the white 12-pin socket casing E1 on 30 adapter cable E to the new generation radio E1 connection plug (30). E Connect the new generation radio connection 31 31 plug and secure it. Secure the connection cable for the CD changer (1) with the holder (16) to the hole (30) from the inside.
